Will these stocks cheer the market next week?
Semiconductor foundry behemoth $Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing(TSM)$ has scheduled to publish its second quarter earnings results on 18 July. As an appetizer this week, the leading chip maker has cheered its investors with a report of strong growth in second-quarter revenue that has handily beaten market forecasts. TSMC has benefited from exceptionally strong demand for semiconductor manufacturing of artificial intelligence chips for the likes of $NVIDIA Corp(NVDA)$ whose AI chips have been selling like hot cakes despite their hefty prices. TSMC counts among its biggest customers Nvidia and AMD that are leading makers of AI chips which can sell over $40,000 per piece as a result of heavy demands exceeding short supplies. Hence, I look forward to an earnings beat by TSMC next week together with an especially strong demand outlook driven by rising orders for AI chips by Nvidia, AMD, etc. With Nvidia and TSMC among the heavyweights in the broader semiconductor industry $Direxion Daily Semiconductors Bull 3x Shares(SOXL)$ , I'm optimistic that SOXL will receive a shot in its arm, as the heavyweights rise on the back of artificial intelligence proliferation that has led to exploding demands for semiconductor chips to drive the AI engines.
The lifting of measures used to contain the COVID pandemic does not seem to have brought back big crowds expected to AMC's theatre chain. Releases of blockbuster movies have done little to help too, as rising competition from the online movies streaming service providers like $Netflix(NFLX)$ have taken a toll on $AMC Entertainment(AMC)$ , which has been struggling to stay competitive and remain relevant post pandemic, as the pandemic has changed forever the way many people would watch movies. AMC will have to quickly reinvent itself to adapt to the new normal or fade into history. Netflix is due to report its fourth quarter earnings results on 18 July, and I would expect the company to post growth in subscribers, as it entices many to watch movies from the comfort of their homes. Its turnaround strategies such as its crackdown on password sharing and ad-supported plans are bearing fruits. Hence, I believe that Netflix will have AMC's cake and eat it too.
