2024 has marked a pivotal year for my growth portfolio, shaped significantly by IT budgets heavily skewed towards critical AI components such as chips, servers, and computing power, rather than software. These investments are essential for the upcoming advancements in AI software, yet the expected impact on the software sector has been slower than anticipated -- this delay is increasingly seen as the precursor to an inevitable upswing in business spending within the software industry, although pinpointing the timing of this surge remains a challenge.
One of my top performers, $CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc.(CRWD)$ , experienced a significant setback due to an IT outage -- losing 40% of its value in just a few weeks. Despite these challenges, I maintain my confidence in CRWD's market-leading endpoint security product -- believing its value will be fully recognized in time.
As the earnings season for growth tech begins, most of my holdings have underperformed this year -- primarily due to prolonged high interest rates that have suppressed business spending on software. However, this could change in the next few weeks. Fortunately, two standout performers, $TransMedics Group, Inc.(TMDX)$ & $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ , have significantly bolstered my portfolio this year.
