Imported junk is also sold by US giants, (Walmart, Amazon, etc.) The only difference is the price the consumer is paying for that junk.
I do quite a bit of shopping on both TEMU and Amazon and have now started to cross check pricing on certain items I find on Amazon. I have no trouble finding these items on TEMU at a fraction of the price that Amazon charges. I’m not talking about big ticket or name brand items, but smaller gadgets, household items, unbranded clothing, etc. are significantly less expensive direct from China than they are when buying from a middleman like Amazon. I hold WMT, AMZN and PDD so am not biased towards one stock over the other, but I do believe these proposed tariffs are more of a political move than a way to protect the consumer. Most of what is sold in the US is imported because we cannot AFFORD to buy US made goods. This isn’t going to change any time soon, especially when we are depressing the average person’s buying power by trying to limit or eliminate less expensive ways to purchase items. We will continue to purchase these goods, but at a higher premium, as companies like Amazon pass on import fees to consumers in the form of increased prices for the same low-quality products.
