Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's comments on AR glasses š and smartphones š± in the Verge interview were quite intriguing which I expect will pan out over the next decade or so:
"Itās not like weāre going to throw away our phones, but I think whatās going to happen is that, slowly, weāre just going to start doing more things with our glasses and leaving our phones in our pockets more. Itās not like weāre done with our computers, and I donāt think weāre going to be done with our phones for a while, but thereās a pretty clear path where youāre just going to use your glasses for more and more things. Over time, I think the glasses are also going to be able to be powered by wrist-based wearables or other wearables.
So, youāre going to wake up one day 10 years from now, and youāre not even going to need to bring your phone with you. Now, youāre still going to have a phone, but I think more of the time, people are going to leave it in their pocket or leave it in their bag, or eventually, some of the time, leave it at home. I think there will be this gradual shift to glasses becoming the main way we do computing.
...For what itās worth, I also think that all the AI work is going to make phones a lot more exciting. The most exciting thing that has happened to our family of apps roadmap in a long time is all the different AI things that weāre building. If I were at any of the other companies trying to design what the next few versions of iPhone or Googleās phones should be, I think that thereās a long and interesting roadmap of things that they can do with AI that, as an app developer, we canāt. Thatās a pretty exciting and interesting thing for them to do, which I assume they will."
