Tesla is run by a wannabe engineer who thinks that LiDAR is a fools errand. Turns out to be, after many years of proclaiming that his Full Self Driving software is capable of autonomous driving, it's still nowhere close to it and is classified as a level 2 (SAE) ADAS.
It's also under investigation by the NHTSA and several other Government organizations for false marketing, failures in their product leading to accidents including deaths!
So much about LiDAR is a fools errand when Waymo makes 150,000 paid trips per week, fully autonomous, whilst using LiDAR!
