Google parent Alphabet announced its new quantum-computing chip Willow: The chip is powerful enough to do in minutes what it would take leading supercomputers 10 septillion years to complete, according to the firm, a breakthrough that could bring practical applications closer to reality. Quantum computing is well behind AI, a technology that itself looms much larger in the popular imagination than its impact (for now). Yet as long as tech companies prove that they're charging forever forward toward innovations that will -- at some point -- be truly revolutionary.
