$AVGO has foundational IP at Google, they cannot be taken out even if Google wanted to. AVGO has leading edge IP and core expertise in High speed SerDes links within interconnects and custom processors that make it practically impossible to remove AVGO out the equation. There’s a reason why AVGO has made 6 generations of TPUs and continues to win the next generation design all due to core IP that no one else can really match. Mediatek can make the same chip as AVGO for cheaper but won’t perform the same. After six generations of TPUs built on Broadcom IP the switching costs to Mediatek would be massive. There would need to be mass redesign of components AVGO designed and no guarantees they will perform the same or better. Google does not have time to experiment with cheaper chips while competing with startups.
