The fifth-generation C151B concept verification train, equipped with smart technology, has arrived in Singapore from Qingdao, China, and will be sent to Bishan Depot for the next stage of testing.
Last year, SMRT signed two agreements with CRRC Qingdao Sifang Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CRRC Group. One agreement deepens cooperation in the fields of digitalization, advanced automation, and robotics; the other is a concept verification contract aimed at trialing new technologies on the fifth-generation C151B train to improve train reliability.
SMRT has a total of 45 C151B trains, one of which will undergo concept verification. The new technologies being tested will help SMRT detect and resolve train-related issues early, reducing the impact on train services.
