But is BYD as profitable as $TSLA? Is it great that BYD are selling a heap of low margin cars to attain this "title"? Or is it a better strategy for TSLA to divert much of its battery production to support its energy division with margins of ~30%? Will TSLA have a problem selling as many vehicles as it likes to roll out its Robotaxi fleet, you know, a venture that produces ongoing revenue rather than a one off profit on a car sale? I don't think looking at car sales metrics is particularly informative for a company like Tesla.

BYD's electric vehicle sales surged 28% year over year to about 2.3 million units in 2025 from 1.8 million units in 2024, according to a Monday disclosure to the Shenzhen bourse.The figure surpassed that of Tesla, whose sales reached more than 1.6 million during the year, according to figures released Friday.Tesla's sales fell 8.6% year over year.
