π°π· South Korea Doubles Down on AI & Semiconductors β Long-Term Opportunity?
South Korea has unveiled one of its biggest technology investment plans yet, reinforcing its position as a global semiconductor and AI powerhouse.
Key announcements:
Up to β©800 trillion (~US$580B+) to develop four new semiconductor fabs in southwest Korea.
Samsung Electronics is expected to build two fabs, while SK Hynix will build two fabs.
At least β©30 trillion will be invested over the next 15 years into:
Next-generation memory chips
Edge AI
Physical AI (robotics & autonomous systems)
Defence semiconductor technologies
AI data centre infrastructure
Stocks I'm Watching π
$CSOP SK Hynix Daily (2x) Leveraged Product(07709)$ β Could benefit from increased AI infrastructure and semiconductor demand as the ecosystem expands.
$CSOP Samsung Electronics Daily (2x) Leveraged Product(07747)$ β Another AI-related play worth keeping on the radar as capital spending accelerates across the sector.
$iShares MSCI South Korea ETF(EWY)$ β An ETF providing diversified exposure to South Korea's largest companies, including major holdings such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. It offers a broader way to participate in Korea's long-term semiconductor and AI growth story.
Future Outlook
The AI race is shifting from software to physical infrastructure. Massive investments in fabs, AI data centres, memory chips, and robotics suggest South Korea is positioning itself as a critical supplier for the next decade of AI development.
If these plans unfold as expected, companies tied to semiconductor manufacturing, memory, AI infrastructure, and advanced packaging could see sustained long-term demand.
This is one I'm watching for the next 5β10 years rather than the next 5β10 weeks.
