[Winning Trade] Bitcoin and Ethereum Are Surging — What’s the Best Way to Play It?

Crypto is hot again. Bitcoin has jumped more than 20% over the past week, while Ethereum has done even better, gaining roughly 30%.

  • Congrats to @kkk88 who made $7,643 by selling IBIT puts.

  • Congrats to @Yorktsui who held IBIT shares and made $8,876.

  • Congrats to @Jason_LSE who held IBIT shares and made $10,920.

Why is crypto rallying again?

A few things are driving the latest move.

First, investors are increasingly worried about the U.S. dollar and government debt. The Treasury recently stepped up long-term bond buybacks in an effort to calm yields, which helped revive the so-called “debasement trade.” When investors worry that fiat currencies may lose purchasing power, scarce assets such as gold and Bitcoin tend to attract more attention. Bitcoin has climbed nearly 30% in August alone.

Second, the regulatory backdrop is improving. President Trump has called on Congress to move forward with the Clarity Act, which would provide clearer rules for digital assets in the U.S. That helped lift both cryptocurrencies and crypto-related stocks.

Ethereum has an extra tailwind. As crypto sentiment improves, money is rotating beyond Bitcoin into ETH and other major tokens. Investors are also paying more attention to Ethereum’s role in stablecoins, tokenization, DeFi and staking.

How to invest bitcoin?

If you just want exposure to Bitcoin, spot ETFs such as $iShares Bitcoin Trust(IBIT)$ , $ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF(ARKB)$ and $Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund(FBTC)$ are the most straightforward choices. They largely track Bitcoin itself, without adding the operating risks that come with crypto companies.

For investors looking for more torque, Bitcoin-related stocks fall into a few different buckets.

$Strategy(MSTR)$ is probably the best-known example. Strategy has turned Bitcoin into its core treasury asset, raising capital and repeatedly buying more BTC. That often makes the stock behave like a higher-beta version of Bitcoin.

Then there are miners such as $MARA Holdings(MARA)$ , $Riot Platforms(RIOT)$ and $CleanSpark, Inc.(CLSK)$ . When Bitcoin rises, mining economics improve, so these stocks can move even faster. But they also depend on power costs, mining difficulty, equipment spending and financing.

$Coinbase Global, Inc.(COIN)$ is a different bet. Coinbase benefits when crypto trading activity picks up. It doesn’t need Bitcoin alone to rally — it needs investors to come back and trade.

Ethereum may be the more interesting trade

Ethereum has outperformed Bitcoin in this latest rally, bringing another group of stocks back into focus.

The standout is $BitMine Immersion Technologies Inc.(BMNR)$ .BitMine has been aggressively accumulating ETH and now holds roughly 5.85 million ETH, close to 5% of Ethereum’s total supply. That has led investors to treat BMNR almost like an “Ethereum version of Strategy.”

Unlike simply holding ETH, BMNR can also stake part of its holdings and earn additional yield. But the trade works both ways: if ETH falls or investors stop paying a premium for crypto treasury companies, BMNR could fall much faster than Ethereum itself.

Another name to watch is $SharpLink Gaming(SBET)$ , which has also built a large Ethereum treasury and uses staking as part of its strategy.
