🐱 Blink Fans: How I Made Over US$6,000 Selling Regular NVDA Covered Calls
💰 My strategy is simple: I don’t always need to sell my NVIDIA shares to make money. Sometimes, I let the options market pay me while I continue holding my shares.
I have been using regular covered calls on NVIDIA (NVDA) to collect premiums. So far, my cumulative NVDA profit has reached US$6,077.56, according to my trading account.
What makes this interesting is that I am not relying entirely on NVIDIA’s share price going up. I am using options premiums to generate additional income.
1️⃣ Why am I making this trade now?
📈 NVIDIA is a fantastic company, but even a strong stock can experience sharp corrections. When NVDA rallies strongly, I sometimes take advantage of higher option premiums by selling covered calls.
My approach is to sell calls when NVIDIA is trading near a short-term peak or when I believe the share price has moved up too quickly.
Sometimes, I even sell covered calls below my original strike price.
Why?
Because my priority is to collect the premium first. I am willing to accept the possibility that my shares may be called away if NVIDIA rises above the strike price.
2️⃣ How do I collect the premiums?
💵 Here are some examples from my recent transactions:
NVDA covered call Premium
Sell $210 Call $7.50
Sell $215 Call $5.50
Sell $215 Call $2.04
Sell $215 Call $4.55
These are premiums per share, so one standard contract represents approximately US$750, US$550, US$204 and US$455 respectively, before fees.
I also sometimes buy back an existing call and sell another one at a different expiry or strike price.
This allows me to adjust my positions according to market conditions.
3️⃣ Why sell calls below my original strike?
🐱 This is something beginners might find unusual.
Most investors prefer selling covered calls above their stock purchase price because they want to collect premiums while keeping the potential for capital appreciation.
However, I sometimes take a different approach.
When NVIDIA reaches a high price, I may sell a call below my original strike to collect a larger premium.
My thinking is that the premium provides a cash buffer if NVIDIA subsequently declines.
For example, if I collect US$500 in premium, that money becomes part of my realised trading income. Even if NVIDIA experiences a correction afterwards, I have already collected that premium.
Of course, the premium does not eliminate the downside risk of holding the shares.
4️⃣ My US$6,077.56 NVDA journey
📊 Looking at my account:
* Total cumulative P&L: US$6,077.56
* Realised P&L: US$7,336.40 approximately
* Unrealised P&L: -US$1,295.96
* Options P&L component: +US$10,082.71
* Stock P&L component: -US$4,005.15
One important lesson here is that my options income has helped offset the losses in my underlying NVIDIA shares.
I am not claiming every covered call is profitable. Some trades require adjustments, and sometimes the stock moves against my position.
5️⃣ What’s my plan from here?
🐱 I intend to continue using covered calls as an income-generating strategy while monitoring NVIDIA’s price movements.
My plan is to:
* Sell calls when NVIDIA experiences a strong rally.
* Collect premiums instead of waiting only for capital appreciation.
* Consider rolling or closing calls when market conditions change.
* Avoid selling too many contracts against my available shares.
* Keep some flexibility in case NVIDIA experiences another correction.
My philosophy is simple: I don’t need NVIDIA to go up every single day to make money from NVIDIA.
Sometimes I collect dividends, sometimes I collect options premiums, and sometimes I simply wait for the market to give me a better opportunity.
🐱 Blink Fans takeaway: Covered calls are not just about selling shares. They are about using shares I already own to generate additional cash flow. My US$6,000 journey shows how options premiums can become a meaningful part of an investment strategy.
Risk reminder: A covered call caps upside above the strike price and does not protect fully against a fall in the underlying shares. Selling below your cost basis can also result in your shares being called away at a loss, even after premiums.@AI_FocusedTrader @TigerStars @TigerEvents
