Everyone should realise that electric vehicles (EVs) is simply a beautiful jingle sang by automotive producers to sell more product.

No doubt, EVs are better than the conventional internal combustion vehicles that are the mainstream now. But this is still a crutch we are hobbling with.

Cars (a big part of vehicles numbers) are highly inefficient use of space and by extension roads are also a poor use of space.

Imagine a world where we are better able utilitise the spaces for public transportation. A network that is extensive and convenient, where train stations are at your doorstep, and trains are fast (high speed rail) and very frequent and regular (every 2 minutes?).

Do not believe for one second, that you are supposed to be packed like canned sardines in public transportation. The efficiency of public transport is that its size can carry more people compared to a given number of cars that it replaced (a bus that fetches 12 might literally be replacing 12 cars, each driven by 1 person going to their workplace). And to replace cars on the road with public transport, frequency should no longer be staggered so poorly that it can be an excuse to not take public transportation.

EVs are a good step forward from what we have. But for long term sustainability and for a better future, serious revolution to public transportation is where it is. Perhaps someone will take a sledgehammer to the system we have all over the world, much like how private hire vehicle services (Grab, Uber, Gojek, etc.) shook up the taxi industry all over. Maybe a "smart public transportation" network, better driven by data and technology.

Remember that you are the difference in the world tomorrow. Learn, be invested and stay safe out there!

Public tpt is not pervasive, penetrative and conducive in big countries. Its the egg n chicken situation. As a result people prefer driving. Also in big countries supermkt are in remote areas.

but there are always forces out there with bad intentions, to protect their profits etc., & they will leave society to die. So the question is how motivated are we, how motivated are our governments?

Visited plc like LA?  Wld know that its not popular,  that's why private commute in beat up pollutg cars thrives. Public tpt works beautifully in high human density city like New York, Shanghai etc..

that is a questionable statement to make.
public transport in most cases bring about positive externalities, i.e. people being able to travel to work, less pollution due to less driving etc

I stand by my view that the public transportation network can be brought up to speed, the longer we hobble along, the harder it is to break the habit (driving everywhere) when the time comes

It is a bad sign that governments all over pay lip service to environmental concerns but don't put the money where their mouth are... Properly invest and revolutionise public transportation.

public transportation is a great equaliser, if done well, it allows lower income individuals to gain employment and travel to work, where they might not have an opportunity otherwise
