Santos Limited is a natural gas company. The Company is engaged in the exploration and development, production, transportation and marketing of, hydrocarbons and the development of technologies, such as carbon capture and storage. It sells gas, ethane, liquefied natural gas (LNG); crude oil; condensate and naphtha, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

[History & Events]

1954: Santos Limited was founded on 18 March and listed on ASX on 01 October.

1963: Santos made its first significant discovery of natural gas in the Cooper Basin with the Gidgealpa 2 well.

1982: Santos signed the US$600 million loan agreement for the Cooper Basin liquids project: one of the largest loans raised by an Australian company at the time.

1984: Reef Oil and Alliance Oil Development were acquired.

1993: The company became the major backer of the discovery effort behind the Stag 1 oil field in Carnarvon Basin.

2002: Esenjay Exploration in the United States was acquired. Santos entered the world LNG market, signing a Heads of Agreement to supply LNG from the Bayu-Undan gas field in the Timor Gap to the Tokyo Electric Power Company and the Tokyo Gas Company.

2011: The Santos GLNG project was sanctioned. First production of LNG was announced on 24 September 2015.

2019: The marked 50 years since the first gas from Santos’ operations in the Cooper Basin made its way to homes and businesses in Adelaide.
