Using Tigers API to get stock information in seconds!
Technical and fundamental indicators obviously play a huge role in picking the right stocks to buy, but they are always such a pain to obtain. Like sure you can do the manual way of looking through pages of numbers to find certain patterns or dig up old company info to judge on whether to buy the stock or not, but that is tedious, and comes with many downfalls, such as miscalculations. Humans are prone to mistakes, it's literally part of our lives. We might miss a zero somewhere during calculation and get a value for an indicator you didn't know was possible. Worst part is that you will then have to go back and recalculate all the data to find where you have gone wrong.
So what? We'll just have to live with it? No, of course not. There are tons of websites out there that grab that information and shove it straight to your face, free of charge, so it makes it 100 times easier to read. But what most people don't know is that you don't even have to look at numbers at all if you wanted to. Behold, the power of Bots.
In my previous posts I talked a little bit about bots and how they have quite a few benefits. Well, they can also automate our calculations. Personally I have coded myself a bot that scrapes fundamental and technical data from multiple sources, like Tiger’s own OpenAPI, which I highly recommend due to their immensely detailed documentation and such simple examples that even a lobotomised ape could learn it, and calculates it for me. It's so simple that all I have to do is enter the desired ticker I want the info from, and the bot will churn out a BUY / HOLD / SELL response! You can even code it to display in green when the stock is ripe for buying, so our monkey brains can just go green = buy, red = sell
Here is an example I made with only a few indicators, along with the traffic light colors for buying, selling and holding.
But of course, there is quite a bit of work and some technical know-how with coding to make a program like this, and those premade websites that do the same thing mostly require a large subscription fee, so this may not be for everyone. But if you are interested, and have a little knowledge with python, I highly recommend checking out the tiger OpenAPI and messing around with it.
