【Interview】KDDM:Undervalued stocks should be our focus

A falling stock can trigger panic, and a rising stock can trigger greed.Investors holding stock during a sharp market decline will face shrinking assets, and bluntly, the loss of their investment.

While the downturn in the market might pose a threat, Tiger Friend @KDDM has a good mentality and chose to remain calm and patient.

Then let's welcome KDDM to share his wonderful investment story.

@KDDM

I am a 43 year old guy from Wellington, New Zealand working as a senior manager for a global fintech company. I am very passionate about most things in life, and have a wide range of interests - particularly movies, sport and travel. My username is an acronym I have used since I was young (but it’s a secret! haha)

Q:Where did you hear about tiger brokers? How is your experience on the Tiger app so far?

When I was in China 9 months ago,, a fellow Kiwi friend told me he was active in the stock market, I said I was looking for a broker, and he showed me the Tiger Trade app. I signed up immediately and have been very active ever since. I only have positive things to say about Tiger and the app. I love it. So easy to use, has a lot of detail if someone wants it, or can be kept simple. Tiger coins and the community are great features, and the games and promotions that come along every so often are fantastic too.

Q:What is investing to you? Is your family supportive of your stock investments?

I am definitely no expert, but have done a tonne of research over the last 9 months into investing. Tiger has definitely opened up a new world for me. Prior to Tiger trading, I had only ever bought a house and owned a couple of shares. My brother has been heavily into the stock market for quite some time, so it was great to pick his brain and get his views. I am a big fan of doing as much research as possible, getting a range of views and ideas and histories, and then forming my own overall opinion.

Also I try to ensure I keep it fun, and enjoy looking out for some lesser known companies that could really take off (I am sure everyone looking for the next big thing!).

Q:What kind of investor do you think you are? What are your investment preferences

People see me as having a high appetite for risk, but I consider myself in the middle of the scale or slightly conservative even. Yet what I consider to be logical/no-brainer decisions however, other people consider risky… so it is all about perspective. I am not a speculator, and I believe in balance and spreading risk. I like to have a combination of mostly dependable investments, spread across a # of industries, mixed with some more ambitious or young stocks. I have not looked into future trading or shorting, but I am starting to research that now. As I expand my comfort zone and level of knowledge I will start looking at these types of trades.

Q:Can you share your portfolio with us? What are you currently trading on the Tiger Trade app?

I quickly went from having a few well known ETF’s and companies in the US (Vanguard VOO & Apple for example) into a diverse portfolio across ETF’s, industries, potential up and coming companies, and different stock markets. I was actively buying stock fortnightly over the past 9 months, but took a pause a month ago, to gauge where the market was truly at, and where i thought the bottom might be in this current tough climate.

Q:What is the most impressive stock you have ever bought? How did you feel then?

Exxon has performed well in during the downturn, and has a very good dividend return (as a lot of the established energy companies do).$Exxon Mobil(XOM)$

Q:What are the characteristics of your ideal stocks?

Right now I like anything established that is undervalued, with good company performance and a forecast for continued success, irrespective of the industry or current stock performance. A return to a positive market is definitely possible sooner than people may think.

Q:How do you stick to it when the market becomes volatile and affects your confidence?

Since day one I always repeated to myself the advice many people have said, which is don’t stress during the market downturns and just wait them out. I am in it for the long haul, not to make a quick return on anything. I know that things can rebound quickly, and I dont criticise my decisions, I just try to learn from them.

Q:How do you balance your life and investment?

I keep myself very busy, so I just allocate myself a certain time period each day to review my investments and read up on the market. Outside of that I don’t stress, but I always do try to keep my finger on the pulse, so I can catch wind of any big early changes.

Q:Are there any memorable achievements that you have made in your investing journey?

Nothing profound I am still too new to the game, but every day I am trying to learn and improve and refine my approach.

Q:What's a piece of advice you'd give a beginner investor?

Take your time, do your research, get some opinions from people you trust, and be patient. Make it fun too!

Q:What's your investment goal in 2022?

To double the amount I have invested to date in Tiger, and outperform the overall average return (I have a % but I will keep that private for now)

Q:What are your opinions on global stocks in the next few months?

I think it will be a tough few months ahead, with a lot of volatility even if we are almost at the bottom, but there will be still be some good performances to be found.

Q:What would you like to say to Tiger friends in our community?

Thanks to all for keeping the community so positive, vibrant, friendly and busy. Keep it going, and I will do my part too.
