$ASML$ versus $TSMC$. Batman versus Robin

I briefly read the article "If you love TSMC, you should love ASML. The Batman and Robin of chipmaking posted by author, upupahcai.

Firstly, thanks to the author, who has initiate this discussion.

My 2cents worth of note.

If you have the world BEST technological know-how and/or equipment and cannot "sell" your product(s) to grow the company. Then, it is useless!!!

2-case study that would have captured the world by storm in the 1970s & 1980s.

Sony versus Philips Video Casette Player/Recorder. Philips has the best Research & Development Team & Sony has the best Marketing Team. Who won the World most recognised Video-Cassette Player and huge revenue at that era?

Toshiba versus Intel. Toshiba was the micro-chip master of that era. Due to US Admin coercion, Toshiba has to setup and transfer the micro-chip know-how & technological processes to the US. Guess who won the race to be the micro-chip technological company in the World. With this, Japan went into stagflation for over 20years.

Now, comes ASML versus TSMC, what you think the outcome would be?

Some comment:

From the US Chip & Science Act:

(Thought is: US Cheap & conScience Act)

ASML has the best lithography equipment, but one of the biggest market that they will lose is a 30%-40% Market shares. How long can AMSL survive? Who is answearble to the ASML Board of Directors & Shareholders?

TSMC has the best advanced micro-chip manufacturing processes. Same here, revenue losses willbe 30%-40% of the market shares. And, there isSamsung & Intel waiting in-line to grab this market share?

With loss of huge revenue, how are these 2 companies going to support new R&D of more complex chip design for the future.

With China 1.4B people, we cannot assumed there is no 0.5%-1% talents (that is 7M-14M top-notch talented people) that will be able to "dream-up"a new super R&D chip within the next 2-3 years.

Trade, Economy & Globalisation is NOT a Political Game.

It is also true in Supply Chain that, if there is a willing Buyer, then there is a Seller. If there is no Buyer, then the World most advanced equipment or machine has no value!!

My humble thought only....

Thank you.

The value of equipment or machine can be slowly discovered, but the problem is that by that time their competitors may have already captured most of the market...

It looks like we need to stay away from the semiconductor sector.

The TSMC is a little more uncertain at the moment.
