Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing said to construct second factory in Japan

For manufacturing 5 and 10 nanometre chips from the second half of the decade, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing $Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing(TSM)$  plans to construct a second chip plant in Japan, Reuters reported.

The second plant will will cost more than 1T yen ($7.4B), Reuters said, Reuters said, citing the Nikkan Kogyo newspaper.

This step is also likely to revive advanced semiconductor manufacturing in the country which it sees as a key requirement for future economic growth driven by new digital technologies.

In October 2022, the company had announced that it is building a wafer fab plant in Kumamoto, Japan, with the multi-billion plant having been announced in November 2021.
