Stocks closed Monday lower, with all three U.S. indexes dropping more than 1% and declines picking up in the afternoon. The S&P 500 was off 1.5%. The Dow industrials were down 1.4%, or nearly 500 points. The Nasdaq Composite fell 1.5%. All 11 of the S&P 500's sectors fell Monday, with energy leading the decliners. The two-year Treasury yield finished the day at 4.469%, from 4.479% late Friday. The 10-year yield finished at 3.701%, unchanged from Friday. Oil prices battled back from a morning retreat. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, settled at $83.19 a barrel, down about 0.5%; WTI, its U.S. counterpart, finished the day up 1.3%. Front-month gold for November delivery fell 0.8% to finish Monday at $1,740.10 per troy ounce. Silver fell 2.4%, while copper dropped 0.4%.
