$Nanofilm(MZH.SI)$used to be the rising star in SGX with $IFAST CORPORATION LTD.(AIY.SI)$. Let's look at its recent 1H22 result!
For those who are not familiar with Nanofilm, it is a leading provider of nanotechnology solutions in Asia, leveraging its proprietary technologies, core competencies in R&D, engineering and production, to provide technology-based solutions across a wide range of industries. They have a few business units which include advanced materials, nanofabrication, industrial equipment and Sydrogen Energy (hydrogen fuel cell joint venture with Temasek - 65% owned by Nanofilm and 35% under Temasek Holdings).
Since its IPO price of $2.59 on 30 Oct 2020, it rocketed all the way up to $6.26 in Jul 2021 (2.41x gain) before it crashes all the way down to current price of $2.23!
2H 20 revenue = S$140.5M, net profit = S$39.5M, EPS = S$0.0715
1H 21 revenue = S$96.6M, net profit = S$18.1M, EPS = S$0.0268
2H 21 revenue = S$150M, net profit = S$44.4M, EPS = S$0.0667
1H 22 revenue = S$111.3M, net profit = S$18.2M, EPS = S$0.0284
As it is a relatively new stock, there's limited data to analyze the results. It seems like the 2H results are alway higher than 1H results. The good thing is it's on a uptrend when comparing 1H 22 vs 1H 21, EPS up ~ 6%. Some key reasons behind its lower profit margin is due to production disruption in China during two-month lockdown in Shanghai, which is likely to impact gross margins from higher labour and raw material costs due to logistical challenges.
Moving forward, all the production equipment for its joint venture Sydrogen Energy has been installed and cleared for operations. It is expected to contribute positively towards 2H 22 result!! Some of its potential applications include proprietary coating for hydrogel fuel cells, distributed stationary power sources (hydrogel fuel cells for data centres, EV charging stations and households). A green energy that uses hydrogen and produces environmental-friendly by products like water vapor!
