Elon Musk is unpredictable, a personality trait which has at times landed him in trouble. He enjoys attention, though sometimes he got into the limelight for the wrong reasons, such as allegations on his sexual misconduct.

Hence, I do not take his tweets seriously and am not surprised that he was joking aboutacquiring Manchester United. I doubt his seriousness, given that he only recently backed out of his take-over bid for $Twitter(TWTR)$.

I would think that blockchain companies are more plausible acquisition targets for him, as he has been an avid supporter of cryptocurrencies, even allowing Tesla cars to be purchased with bitcoins previously. Many blockchain companies are under pressure due to on-going Crypto Winter. He is known to be a contrarian, and may just tweet / joke about buying a blockchain company next.
