1978: The company went initial public under the symbol "HCN" on the New York Stock Exchange.
2011: The company acquired nearly all the real estate assets of Genesis HealthCare for $2.4 billion.
2013: The company acquired nearly all the real estate assets of Sunrise Senior Living in a transaction valued at $4.3 billion.
2015: Welltower formed a joint venture with the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) to acquire a combined interest of 50.5% in a portfolio of medical office buildings in Southern California.

2018: Welltower and ProMedica announced the acquisition of Quality Care Properties and HCR ManorCare for $4.4 billion. The company changed its ticker symbol to "WELL" on February 28.
