[Heart]Hello, fellow Tigers.

In this article, let's listen to Terra @Terra_Incognita 's wonderfull sharing.

Impressive “sound-bite” bullets:

  • “I’m a left-side hunter: I buy fear and sell euphoria before the crowd confirms the move.”

  • “My watchlists are living organisms—over 100 names traded in 12 months, but only the ones kissing support or punching resistance get an invitation to the table.”

  • “Options are my capital-efficient scalpel; when liquidity dries up I simply switch to the underlying—same thesis, sharper execution.”

  • “I treat volatility like rent: during earnings or macro shocks I either collect premium by selling straddles/strangles or step in and buy the panic—never sit idle.”

  • “Risk control first, profit second: every position is pre-divided into tranches so the market can punch me twice and I still have ammo for the third round.”

  • “My biggest winner, SOFI, paid for my kids’ college fund—$72 k lifetime off one ticker because I let the winners breathe and kept cutting the losers fast.”

  • “I don’t forecast, I react: my edge is a weekend scan, a trendline, and the discipline to hit ‘buy’ when the story and the chart finally rhyme.”

  • “The Cashboost account is my spare magazine—60 days commission-free plus CDP/CPF linkage means I can reload mid-battle without leaving the field.”

  • “AI summaries? Great for speed-reading 10-Ks at 7 a.m.; trading decisions still come from price, volume, and open-interest—not from the machine’s opinion.”

  • “Replicate me? Absolutely. I run on free YouTube indicators and grade-school risk math—consistency beats complexity every time.”

Week 33 of 2025 - Securing Profits and Shedding Dead Weights

LV9 & CBA Winner Daryl Lau: 19 Q&As Guide to Find Quick Opptunities for Short-term Trading

Charts Reading:More Volatility in Q3? Ways to Hedging & Speculating in Short-Term @Tiger_James Ooi

1. What are the scenarios for short-term trading? Such as buying on a sharp rise or bottom fishing on a sharp fall.

Ans: There are a few scenarios where I would enter into short-term trading. The dominant scenario is when some stocks are either oversold or overbought and at support or resistance levels. Other scenarios might include trading on event-based situations such as earnings and economic news.

2. Do you conduct swing trading on a monthly, weekly, or daily basis?

Ans: My preferred strategies for swing trading involve trades with a holding period between 1 week to 8 weeks, with the most frequent trade strategies executed between 1-3 weeks. I rarely open and close trades on the same day.

3.In the recent market conditions, what concepts have you traded? For example:

Ans: I trade pretty much everything I find of interest and edge on. Usually, the popular ones like big Tech, EV, AI, Crypto, financials, and commodities, although my selections can be very wide and very diverse. In the past 1 year, I have traded more than 100 separate counters in different trade setups. I also trade both long and short positions, so I won’t mind shorting the market or companies if the opportunities arise.

4.What types of instruments do you trade to capture short-term opportunities? Options? ETFs?

Ans: I mostly used options to trade as I found it capital efficient. They can be traded both on stocks, ETFs, commodities, and crypto-related counters. If the liquidity on options trade for those stocks is poor, I choose to trade directly into the stock itself to reduce slippage.

5.How do you screen for swing trading targets?

Ans: I manage a few watchlists on stocks and ETFs that I’m interested. During weekends and pre-trading hours, when I have more time, I will run through them to determine if any of them are near support/resistance levels. Those will be shortlisted, and I might also read up a bit more about the company performance, recent news, and valuations for selected companies to support my decisions.

6.How do you determine whether the current price is a suitable entry or exit point? What indicators do you look at in terms of price and trading volume?

Ans: I mostly use Moving Averages, Trendlines and Trade Volume for stock charts. Separately I will use Option Open Interest and Implied Volatility to determine support and resistance levels.

7. Do you prefer left-side or right-side trading?

Ans: I’m usually a left-side trader. For most trades, I probably already determined potential support and resistance levels and is willing to enter into trade before confirmation. I split my entries usually into multiple batches so if the support or resistance is broken, then I will enter another batch to average up or down. Only once my full allocation size is met, then I will stop adding more positions.

8.Under what specific conditions would you quickly execute a stock trade?

Ans: Sometimes I entered into trades when a company news or a piece of economic news impact a specific company. I would determine if those price actions are overbought or oversold and is willing to enter trades based on those convictions.

An example of this recently was $SolarEdge(SEDG)$ a solar panel company that was impacted by the passing of the US spending bills that will exclude subsidy for the solar energy industry. I viewed that as oversold when the company dipped > 30% from like $24 to $14 intraday. The same company reclaimed back to pre-news price level in just 2 weeks.

9.Do you rely on any quantitative indicators?

Ans: I use Trade Volume, ATR and RSI to support some trades but not firmly make trade decisions based on those indicators.

10. Do you use any AI tools to capture short-term opportunities?

Ans: I have been trying out the Tiger AI to quickly skim through information I needed on companies and found them useful for summarized quick read. I find these functions fun and useful and are increasingly using more of them. I have yet to make trade decisions solely based on any AI tools.

11. Are you aware of the tools available on Tiger Brokers: Movers, Bull list?

Ans: I’m aware and read them sometimes. Currently is not dependent on them to make trade decisions but to use as supporting information to know what other traders are interested at.

12.How do you identify trading opportunities? For example, during earnings season, with better-than-expected results?

Ans: Base on my trading strategies, I don’t rely much on earning seasons to determine the trades. I’ll probably use earning dates to either avoid or intentionally enter into trades as those are period of higher volatility.

I also tend to spread my trades into multiple and diverse trades, like selling options puts and calls on stocks to capture premiums. This allows me higher freedom to make trading losses and some buffer margins before trades turned into losses.

13.Do you have any specific industry preferences for trading?

Ans: I’m professional career is in the semiconductor industry so I tend to follow those related companies more closely. In recent years, I diversified into big Tech, commodity, crypto, AI and EV and other industry simply to prevent concentration risk on my trades to be not dependent into specific industry volatility.

14.Do you usually stick to familiar individual stocks for swing trading, or do you switch stocks frequently?

Ans: I tend to trade and manage a diverse group of stocks depending on where the opportunity arises. For the past 1 year, I had traded more than 100 individual counters.

15.What was your most successful swing trade? How much profit did you make?

Ans: $SoFi Technologies Inc.(SOFI)$ is my most profitable trade to date. I’ve made $30k on it so far in 2025 and $72k from all years from this single company.

16.Do you think your short-term trading skills can be learned and replicated?

Ans: Yes certainly! I adopted some of the most basic trading methods that could be learned freely online or accelerated through paid mentorship. None of these methods I’ve used are dependent on any proprietary software or trading skills. Just by being consistent and manage downside risk, then the upside will take care of itself. We find our own trading edge through experimentation.

17. What risk control measures do you think are most important for successful short-term trading?

Ans: Prevent over-trading and over-exposure on individual trades as well as overall portfolio risks. More often, we try to make more profit by taking more risks. Sometimes we see our peer traders posting large profits. These might skew our mindsets and impact our own trading strategies.

18. How will you use the Cashboost account to enhance your return?

Ans: I’ve noticed that the Cashboost account can now be linked to CDP and CPF, and it also offers 60 days of commission-free trading. On top of that, every trade provides a chance to win rewards, which I think shows how generous Tiger is toward its users. If I’m using a Prime account for options and have already utilized my margin, I can still use CBA to purchase additional stocks and ETFs across different markets—allowing me to further scale and diversify my investments.

19.What advice do you have for our investors?

Ans: Try various trading methods and find ones that resonate with you. For example, some might say day trading or 0DTE trades are highly profitable, but if your heart and time can’t cope with the day traders’ requirement, then it's not suitable for you. Find your own edge through experimentation and start small, then continue to build a larger portfolio as you grow more confident and gain more experience.
