πππIn trading there is no right or wrong way, just what suits a person's goals and risk appetite. I am at heart a conservative investor. Slow and steady is my way, definitely not impulsive. I believe that patience and time in the markets are key ingredients to successful investing.
I like to do my research and be well informed before I make an investing decision. I am continuously looking out for facts and information relating to my investments. I prefer safe, relatively low volatility stocks. I do not like high risk, high rewards stocks.
An impulsive investor is someone who is spontaneous and tend to base their decisions on their feelings and emotions, rather than facts and studies. An impulsive investor maybe quick in both buying and selling, following hot tips and hearsay.
Early in my investing journey I have been an impulsive investor but through mistakes and personal experience, I have evolved to be more relaxed and less hurried in my decision-making process.
While FOMO or Fear Of Missing Out maybe the main driving force of an impulsive investor, it may lead to HODL or Holding On For Dear Life of stocks bought in a hurry which may lead to regrets later on.
Stocks are much more than Tickers or Counters. They represent businesses which are run by people. When we look at stocks as businesses, we are actually delving into what makes them tick. A good business especially with a competitive advantage will continue to generate profits for a long time.
As a conservative investor, I dive deeper and look at the financial records and management of the business.
Of course it is impossible to get it right all the time but if I make mistakes I try to learn from them. Investing is after all a journey and as I evolve to be a better investor through my experience, I hope to create a portfolio that will help me achieve my goal of FIRE - Financial Independence Retire Early.
