Tiger Broker 9th Anniversary Munch and Mingle!

Tiger Broker hosted a "Munch and Mingle" event at Duo Tower, where retail investors get to meet and interact each other. The event was filled with delicious food, stimulating investment discussions, and fun games! Receive my top 10 author award! Once again, thank you to all my readers and friends who voted me as the Top 10 author in 2022!  As the pandemic subsided, Sir Bahamut's overseas work trips and workload have steadily increased as well 😨😨😨. As such, I wasn't able to spare as much time to write quality content for Tigers this year :(  Given my lack of articles this year, I will most likely will drop off out the Top 30 author spot 😅. Nonetheless, I will continue to try my best to pen down my insights and investment thesis and

Xiaomi: Lacklustre outlook in 2023 post 4Q22 result

$XIAOMI-W(01810)$  Bloomberg put up a strong headline news on Xiaomi’s profit beat, which prompted me to look into its financials. But alas, nothing was a surprise beat! Xiaomi’s 4Q22 results were weak as expected. Its revenue in 4Q22 decreased by 22.8% year-on-year, mainly due to a significant decline in the smartphone segment (down 27% year-on-year), while IoT and internet services also fell by 14% and 1% year-on-year respectively. Xiaomi’s adjusted net profit (non-IFRS) dropped by a jaw-dropping 67.3% year-on-year to Rmb1.46bn in 4Q22, primarily caused by higher-than-anticipated R&D expenses in the EV business (Rmb1.1bn) and a weaker gross profit margin (GPM) in the smartphone segment due to the strong US dol

How will SG banks do in 2023?

$DBS GROUP HOLDINGS LTD(D05.SI)$  As stock investment for SRS and CPFIS are largely restricted to the Singapore market, I do have a sizeable portfolio weight in the three SG local banks as they have decent ROE with stable earnings growth. Hence, it's important for myself to review this sector regularly and keep myself updated. I do think that the financial sector in Singapore is expected to have strong profits and visibility in the next 6-12 months due to the high rates being passed on to domestic borrowers while Singapore banks continue to enjoy one of the best deposit franchises in the region. This will add strength to net interest margins and profitability. On the asset side, Singap

$Nasdaq100 Bear 3X ETF(SQQQ)$Next week QQQ and the tech sectors will not be good as well as we approached Oct 13 for Sept 2022 CPI data released. Labour market remains strong, while housing prices and rent remained sticky and elevated as these takes time to adjust (e.g. you have to fulfil for rent obligation regardless of the interest). Worst of all, oil price reboundedafter OPEC wants to cut oil production. All this points to a hot inflation data in Sep 2022. Oct CPI should moderate purely because Oct 21 is the first time we saw CPI spiked to 6+%. So hold on to dear life! Next week US companies will also kickstart their 3Q reporting. If earnings are as bad aswhat AMD reported, then expect another correction of 10-20

Do not Panic. AAPL’s iPhone 14 sales still on track

$Apple(AAPL)$Bloomberg reported on Apple’s pull-back on production increase for the iPhone 14 family products yesterday. This is due to the lacklustre demand for the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 plus model. However, all these are old news which I have shared a few times before in my previous posts. Only the “production boost” is being scaled down, the 90mil handset sales target remains intact, which is similar to its predecessor iPhone 13 when it first launched. The market overreacted and sold down Apple share price. Also, another positive news that Bloomberg reported but was drowned by all the noises: the premium iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro max demand is very strong! The demand is even stronger than iPhone 13 Pro

My favourite football team is like Apple! My favourite football team is Argentina! Both are well-known and highly respected in their respective fields. The Argentina national football team is one of the most successful teams in the history of the sport, with a strong track record of success and a devoted fan base. Similarly, Apple is a highly successful and influential company in the technology industry, with a strong brand and a loyal customer base. The Argentina national football team has a talented roster of players, similar to how Apple has a skilled and innovative team of designers and engineers. The team is led by a coaching staff that works tirelessly to develop strategies and tactics for success, similar to how Apple has a leadership team that drives the company's vision and d

Cloudflare: Badly hurt by macro

$Cloudflare, Inc.(NET)$  Cloudflare's Q1 revenue results were largely in line with expectations, but its revenue guidance for FY24 was below expectations due to macro uncertainty leading to longer sales cycles and backend-weighted linearity, with security products performing better than its applications. Cloudflare results will likely create significant overhang on shares over the near- and medium-term as investors weigh the prospects for Cloudflare and software generally for the remainder of the year. Based on the current pre-market trading, Cloudflare is already down 25% after its result. Key Q1 earnings call takeaway Cloudflare's Q1 revenue came in at $290.2M, or 37% growth, on the low end of the $290-291M guidance and roughly in-line with

Grab’s review: Why I don’t like this company

$Grab Holdings(GRAB)$  Grab is reporting its result on 16 Nov 2022, so Sir Bahamut will do a review and compilation of why he doesn’t like this company. Competitive and difficult Delivery market Two of Grab’s primary SEA market is Singapore and Indonesia. In Singapore, Grab has to compete with Food Panda and Deliveroo in the food delivery business. Based on Sir Bahamut’s personal experience in SG, Grab charges a lot higher compared to Deliveroo, and Grab don’t always have exclusive rights to certain food outlet. Additionally, ever since the merger of Tokopedia and Gojek, GoTo has dominated Indonesia market. Moreover, with the post-Covid reopening, outdoor dining has resumed again and largely recovered to pre-Covid l

1. I will never invest in companies based on "Greater Fool Theory", where investment is made with the knowledge that the company is not a good business or too overvalued, with the hope that another gullible investor will come along and pay an even higher price. 2. I will never invest in companies that are purely loss-making without a specific strategy to turn profitable or cashflow positive at a target deadline. 3. I will never chase after hot investment trends blindly (such as meme stocks). Just because an investment is popular or has performed well recently, doesn't mean it will continue to do so in the future. 4. I will never put all eggs in one basket. Warren Buffet said "Diversification is protection against ignorance." Oops I gave four.

Sea Ltd: Unexpected positive earnings surprise!

$Sea Ltd(SE)$  Sea Ltd (SE) blew my mind when I saw its 4Q22 EBITDA and net profit both turned positive! This is far better than consensus’s estimates of US$433m loss! The 4Q22 results were exceptional, surpassing expectations and achieving significant profit milestones, including adjusted EBITDA breakeven on both Shopee and digital financial services (SeaMoney) segments, group level GAAP profitability and positive cash flow! Quick result summary 4Q22 GAAP revenue increased by 7% YoY and 9% QoQ. Strong cost discipline allowed for a rapid turnaround in 4Q22 as SE achieved adj. Tencent: Growth has resumed!

$TENCENT(00700)$  Tencent's 4Q22 results was surprisingly better than expected, with total revenue increasing by 0.5% YoY to Rmb145bn and adj. EBIT growing by 18.9% YoY to Rmb39.4bn. Double-digit YoY growth in international games and online ads revenue partly offset the weaker performance of fintech & business services (FBS) revenue due to Covid outbreaks. However, FBS rebounded quickly and new domestic games exhibited positive momentum in 1Q23. Online game: solid growth in both domestic and international market! The total revenue from online games increased by 0.2% YoY to Rmb50.7bn. International games revenue grew by 5% YoY to Rmb13.9bn, or 11% YoY after excluding currency impact and supercell-related true-up

$Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing(TSM)$Wow 3Q22 result is fantastic! Gross Margin for 3Q22 is 60.4%, highest ever since 2005! Very strong demand for 5nm chip as well. Sir Bahamut will provide an update after theanalyst call briefing at 2pm. I guess market probably will put weight on recent headwinds from US export ban rather than this impressive result. TSMC Nov Revenue rise 50%!

$Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing(TSM)$  TSMC just reported its Nov 2022 revenue of NT222.71 billion, which is another record high! This represents a 50.2% y-o-y increase and 5.9% m-o-m increase from Oct 2022. Very impressive! Despite challenges in the slumping consumer electronics and Covid disruptions in China, TSMC revenue momentum seems unstoppable! Currently, Oct-Nov sales are on track to beat prior mid-point guidance given by TSMC management in 3Q22, and these revenue forms around 68% of market consensus for 4Q22, so it's generally in-line with market expectations.  TSMC share price still has room to jump. $Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund(XLE)$Global energy demand continues to expand steadily, driven by population growth, productivity growth and improving living standards. It’s estimated that we require 3x energy over the next 20 years. Oil demand is going up even with all the EVs, net zero carbon pledges and subsidies etc. However, capex spending on oil and gas has more than halved since 2014! There is a significant underinvestment due to all the ESG protocol and the growing pressure to decarbonise. Years of underinvestment leads to lower production of oil and natural gas, which will lead to sustained higher price for oil in the longer run.Hence, I like $Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund(XLE)$ as I expect oil pri

Kuaishou: Solid growth + clear visibility to profitability!

$KUAISHOU-W(01024)$  Kuaishou caught my attention as the outlook for Kuaishou’s growth in 2023 is quite positive, driven by both macroeconomic factors and company-specific initiatives. These include the introduction of new features like the shopping mall and search ads, which is expected to boost revenue growth and cost efficiency. There are two reasons why I am fond of Kuaishou: (1) the growth potential in ads revenue and eCommerce GMV is very promising, and (2) the Company has a clear plan to achieve breakeven in 2023. Solid GMV and Ad revenue growth! Kuaishou's e-commerce outlook for 2023 is promising. E-commerce GMV grew by 33% in 2022 and it can largely be attributed to platform traffic conversion (converting t

Do not panic! Palo Alto’s loss is CrowdStrike’s gain!

$CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc.(CRWD)$  In my previous post on Tiger Broker about CrowdStrike (CRWD), CRWD’S share price was around $260. Since then, it has skyrocketed to over $310, representing a nearly 20% gain in less than two months! At one point, CRWD’s share price even hit above $330! However, cybersecurity stocks, including CRWD and ZS, took a hit recently after Palo Alto Networks (PANW) issued lower-than-expected guidance and blamed "spending fatigue" in the industry. This pessimistic outlook caused CRWD and ZS shares to plummet over 10%, while PANW itself experienced a staggering 28% drop. PANW is not the same league as CRWD! Recent guidance from Palo Alto sparked concerns about a potential downturn in the cybersecurity sector. However,

CrowdStrike: Conservative outlook in 2023, but still strong!

$CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc.(CRWD)$  CrowdStrike (CRWD) has been in my portfolio since 2020 and has been my favourite cybersecurity company! CRWD's disruptive platform has made it a leader in the Endpoint Security market, enabling it to efficiently penetrate core and adjacent markets. Due to its strong unit economics and go-to-market efficiency, CrowdStrike has more flexibility than its peers in driving incremental profitability, and has consistently exceeded expectations and is on track to achieve its goal of $5bn of ARR by FY26. Highly favourable Gartner ratings! For consecutive years since its initial public offering in 2019, CRWD has consistently received high ratings from Gartner. In 2022, it was ranked as the top performer for compl
