Medical suppliers used the Palantir software to monitor global supply chains and then they helped to measure shortages and imbalances of supplies and proactively move those supplies around to meet the demand,” Gordon told CNBC’s “Trading Nation” on Tuesday, specifically pointing to the success of vaccine rollouts in the U.S. and U.K.\nPalantir generates the bulk of its revenue through government contracts. Its government segment makes up nearly 56% of total sales with commercial as the remainder.\nRecent positions from some of Wall Street’s most notable players also support Gordon’s bull case. Stanley Druckenmiller’s Duquesne Family Office recently disclosed a new stake of nearly 6 million shares of Palantir, while Cathy Wood’s ARK Invest also holds a position.\nIts technical position also looks set up for a push higher, Gordon said.\n“Technically speaking here, you can see there’s been a pretty unbelievable run ever since they came to the market, rallied all the way up to $44, and then what you see here is a pretty common three-wave technical correction,” he said.\n\nThe triangle formed by that middle wave of the correction suggests to Gordon that the stock could break out to the upside.\nTo take advantage of that move, Gordon lays out one potential trade – putting on a 25/30 calldeb it spread with Aug. 20 expiration. Alibaba owns the South China Morning Post.</p><p>Investors will be keen to learn more about JD Logistics' plan to churn out a profit. The Beijing-based firm said in its prospectus that it expects a bigger net loss for this year, after racking up losses of 2.8 billion yuan (US$435 million) in 2018, 2.2 billion yuan in 2019 and 4 billion yuan in 2020.</p><p>\"As we currently prioritise growth of our business and expansion of our market share over profitability, there can be significant fluctuations in our profitability profile in the near-to-medium term,\" the company said in its draft prospectus.</p><p>JD Logistics is seeking to differentiate itself from other players, such as ZTO and Yunda Holding, by touting itself as a technology-driven logistic services provider using autonomous mobile robots, sorting robots and self-driving vehicles to enhance delivery speed and accuracy.</p><p>Pitching the stock sale with a tech angle could help JD Logistics paint a more positive outlook. This is because competition is particularly keen in the express delivery sector, with reports of some newer players offering services at below cost to grab business.</p><p>Over the past three years, the average revenue per parcel for express delivery companies declined by 50 per cent to 60 per cent owing to intensive market competition, according to Charlie Chen, an analyst at China Renaissance.</p><p>SF Express, China's top delivery service provider, shocked the market this month after it forecast a first-quarter loss of 1.1 billion yuan, triggering a sell-off of its stock. As of Friday's close, its share price in Shanghai was almost halved from its mid-February peak.</p><p>Five players - ZTO, YTO Express, STO Express, SF Express and Yunda Holding - account for nearly 80 per cent of China's express delivery service market.</p><p>China is the biggest logistics market in the world in terms of spending, with total logistics spending reaching 14.9 trillion yuan in 2020. My fears over the&nbsp;market cap dipping below $2 trillionfor the first time since November were also confirmed, maybe more quickly than I could have anticipated.</p>\n<p>Apple stock is now nearly 19% off the peak of less than 30 trading days ago, and one inch away from bear territory. Investors must be feeling uneasy about holding shares during this uncomfortable pullback.</p>\n<p>But I believe that shareholders also have reasons to be optimistic.</p>\n<p><b>History says: buy Apple</b></p>\n<p>Of course, a successful investment in Apple depends primarily on the company performing well and delivering above-consensus financial results going forward. In that regard, Apple’s business seems to be in very good shape, at least judging by&nbsp;the company’s most recent earnings report.</p>\n<p>So, I turn away from business fundamentals for now and focus on price action. Historically, the best strategy has been&nbsp;to buy Apple when it is well off its peak. Recently, I came across yet another piece of evidence to support this idea.</p>\n<p>Over the past five years, Apple stock has produced monthly returns that have swung from a low of -18% in November 2018 to a high of 21% in August 2020. Although it may be hard to anticipate with much precision when the stock will perform best, there seems to be somewhat of a pattern.</p>\n<p>The graph below shows that steeper monthly losses in Apple shares tend to be followed by periods of strong stock performance. Notice the dotted arrows:</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/45802af85db02f208dc6687c52dd4a63\" tg-width=\"1240\" tg-height=\"284\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Stock Rover</span></p>\n<p>Below are some numbers to help illustrate the point.</p>\n<p>Since 2016, Apple has produced an average three-month return of 3.5%, with worst decline of -11% in the fourth quarter of 2018. But an investor who waited to buy shares only after two months of material losses (defined here as -3%) in the previous three periods earned an average three-month return that was nearly twice as high, at 6.7%.</p>\n<p>March is shaping up to be a bad month for Apple, after January saw shares tank and February failed to impress. Judging only by the pattern described above, this could be a good time to jump in.</p>\n<p><b>Calendar pattern says: buy Apple</b></p>\n<p>The second reason to buy Apple now has to do with annual patterns in stock returns. The graph below tells a compelling story.</p>\n<p>Notice that the average monthly gains in Apple shares over the past five years have been best in the summer months of July and August. Prior to this period, the returns improve slowly throughout the spring, as the stock recovers from an underwhelming holiday quarter.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/563f095f6d02bf7c530705e701c30e2b\" tg-width=\"1240\" tg-height=\"299\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Stock Rover</span></p>\n<p>There is some logic to this pattern. September tends to be the month in which the new iPhone model is announced, a few weeks ahead of Black Friday. At that point, investors have likely already bid up the share price in anticipation for Apple’s “hot season” of sales. Sell-the-news pressures begin to accumulate.</p>\n<p>In 2021, something similar could happen. The market’s preference for small-cap value stocks over mega-cap growth ones during a year of economic recovery will eventually fizzle. At that point, chatter about&nbsp;Apple’s iPhone 13 will begin to surface. However, two price patterns suggest that this could be a good time to buy the stock.\nOn Monday, March 8, Apple stock had its worst day of trading since October 2020: down 4.2%, despite lack of company-specific news. My fears over the market cap dipping below $2 trillionfor the first time since November were also confirmed, maybe more quickly than I could have anticipated.\nApple stock is now nearly 19% off the peak of less than 30 trading days ago, and one inch away from bear territory. Investors must be feeling uneasy about holding shares during this uncomfortable pullback.\nBut I believe that shareholders also have reasons to be optimistic.\nHistory says: buy Apple\nOf course, a successful investment in Apple depends primarily on the company performing well and delivering above-consensus financial results going forward. In that regard, Apple’s business seems to be in very good shape, at least judging by the company’s most recent earnings report.\nSo, I turn away from business fundamentals for now and focus on price action. Historically, the best strategy has been to buy Apple when it is well off its peak. Recently, I came across yet another piece of evidence to support this idea.\nOver the past five years, Apple stock has produced monthly returns that have swung from a low of -18% in November 2018 to a high of 21% in August 2020. Although it may be hard to anticipate with much precision when the stock will perform best, there seems to be somewhat of a pattern.\nThe graph below shows that steeper monthly losses in Apple shares tend to be followed by periods of strong stock performance. Notice the dotted arrows:\nStock Rover\nBelow are some numbers to help illustrate the point.\nSince 2016, Apple has produced an average three-month return of 3.5%, with worst decline of -11% in the fourth quarter of 2018. But an investor who waited to buy shares only after two months of material losses (defined here as -3%) in the previous three periods earned an average three-month return that was nearly twice as high, at 6.7%.\nMarch is shaping up to be a bad month for Apple, after January saw shares tank and February failed to impress. Judging only by the pattern described above, this could be a good time to jump in.\nCalendar pattern says: buy Apple\nThe second reason to buy Apple now has to do with annual patterns in stock returns. The graph below tells a compelling story.\nNotice that the average monthly gains in Apple shares over the past five years have been best in the summer months of July and August. Prior to this period, the returns improve slowly throughout the spring, as the stock recovers from an underwhelming holiday quarter.\nStock Rover\nThere is some logic to this pattern. September tends to be the month in which the new iPhone model is announced, a few weeks ahead of Black Friday. At that point, investors have likely already bid up the share price in anticipation for Apple’s “hot season” of sales. Sell-the-news pressures begin to accumulate.\nIn 2021, something similar could happen. The market’s preference for small-cap value stocks over mega-cap growth ones during a year of economic recovery will eventually fizzle. At that point, chatter about Apple’s iPhone 13 will begin to surface.
