Security personnel at the Brians 2 prison in northeast Spain tried but failed to revive him, the Associated Press reported, citing a statement from the region’s government.</p>\n<p>McAfee had been in Spanish custody since October on a June 2020 U.S. indictment in which he was charged with failing to file four years of tax returns while concealing assets. Then in March, he was indicted and accused of fraud and money laundering over his use of social media to promote cryptocurrencies, which prosecutors said generated $13 million in illicit gains for McAfee and a co-conspirator.</p>\n<p>The Justice Department declined to comment and a spokeswoman referred questions to Spanish authorities.</p>\n<p>Before his legal turmoil, McAfee was a pioneer of the cybersecurity industry. He founded <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MCFE\">McAfee Corp.</a> in 1987 in Santa Clara, California, and led the company as it dominated the market for antivirus protection of personal computers. Half of all Fortune 100 companies were using his software during that time. McAfee resigned in 1994. Decades later he told the South China Morning Post that running the company no longer was fun as it grew to a huge corporation with thousands of employees.</p>\n<p>Intel Corp. bought the company in 2010 and later rebranded all McAfee products as Intel Security. After his name was removed, McAfee told the BBC, “I am now everlastingly grateful to Intel for freeing me from this terrible association with the worst software on the planet.”</p>\n<p>McAfee relocated to Belize in 2008 after his $100 million fortune was reduced to $4 million following a series of failed investments in property, real estate and bonds. There he had <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> of his biggest conflicts with authorities in 2012 after the killing of a neighbor, Gregory Faull, a 52-year-old contractor and Florida native. McAfee’s home on the island of Ambergris Caye was searched after Faull was shot to death and police said they wanted to question him as part of a murder investigation.</p>\n<p>He then sought asylum in Guatemala in 2012, claiming he wasn’t on the run from authorities in Belize. He turned to social media and public interviews to salvage his reputation, sending updates to Wired magazine, allowing two reporters from Vice magazine to accompany him and posting missives to his own website. He discussed eluding police by burying himself in sand with a cardboard box and changing his appearance.</p>\n<p>McAfee was expelled from Guatemala and arrived in Miami in December 2012. The party’s nomination was won by former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson.</p>\n<p>By 2017, McAfee jumped on the Bitcoin bandwagon as chief executive officer of <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MGT\">MGT Capital Investments</a> Inc. He’d promised to turn the former video game operation into a profitable cybersecurity firm by ramping up its Bitcoin mining business. He stepped down later that year to become the CEO of a cryptocurrency company, Luxcore.</p>\n<p>Part of his cryptocurrency venture included charging more than $105,000 per tweet to promote initial coin offerings. McAfee later told his <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/TWTR\">Twitter</a> followers he’d been forced to “go dark” on social media after receiving unspecified “threats” from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.</p>\n<p>During the period from 2014 to 2018 McAfee failed to file U.S. tax returns, according to a federal indictment. That's understandable, with several of them delivering triple-digit and even four-digit percentage gains.</p>\n<p>However, what goes up can come down. Analysts don't expect the online frenzy fueling the ginormous jumps for some of the most popular stocks will be sustainable. Here are three meme stocks that Wall Street thinks will plunge by more than 20% within the next 12 months.</p>\n<p>AMC Entertainment</p>\n<p><b>AMC Entertainment</b>(NYSE:AMC)ranks as the best-performing meme stock of all. Shares of the movie theater operator have skyrocketed close to 2,500% year to date.</p>\n<p>The consensus among analysts, though, is that the stock could lose 90% of its current value. Even the most optimistic analyst surveyed by Refinitiv has a price target for AMC that's more than 70% below the current share price.</p>\n<p>But isn't AMC's business picking up? Yep. The easing of restrictions has enabled the company to reopen 99% of its U.S. theaters. AMC could benefit as seating capacity limitations imposed by state and local governments are raised. Thereleases of multiple movies this summerand later this year that are likely to be hits should also help.</p>\n<p>However, Wall Street clearly believes that AMC's share price has gotten way ahead of its business prospects. The stock is trading at nearly eight times higher than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.</p>\n<p>Clover Health Investments</p>\n<p>Only a few days ago, it looked like&nbsp;<b>Clover Health Investments</b>(NASDAQ:CLOV)might push AMC to the side as the hottest meme stock. Retail investors viewed Clover as a primeshort squeezecandidate.</p>\n<p>Since the beginning of June, shares of Clover Health have jumped more than 65%. Analysts, however, don't expect those gains to last. The average price target for the stock is 25% below the current share price.</p>\n<p>Clover Health's valuation does seem to have gotten out of hand. The healthcare stock currently trades at more than 170 times trailing-12-month sales. That's a nosebleed level, especially considering that the company is the subject of investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.</p>\n<p>Still, Clover Health could deliver improving financial results this year. The company hopes to significantly increase its membership by targeting the original Medicare program. This represents a major new market opportunity in addition to its current Medicare Advantage business.</p>\n<p>Sundial Growers</p>\n<p>At one point earlier this year,&nbsp;<b>Sundial Growers</b>(NASDAQ:SNDL)appeared to be a legitimate contender to become the biggest winner among meme stocks. The Canadian marijuana stock vaulted more than 520% higher year to date before giving up much of its gains. However, Sundial's share price has still more than doubled in 2021.</p>\n<p>Analysts anticipate that the pot stock could fall even further. The consensus price target for Sundial reflects a 23% discount to its current share price. One analyst even thinks the stock could sink 55%.</p>\n<p>There certainly are reasons to be pessimistic about Sundial's core cannabis business. The company's net cannabis revenue fell year over year in the first quarter of 2021. And many experts see bitcoin as a store of value, like gold, rather than a currency.\n“Then beyond that, I think [bitcoin] continues up because there are only 21 million of them,” says Draper. By virtue of its code, only 21 million bitcoin can be “mined.” So far, more than 18 million bitcoin are already in circulation.\nDraper, 63, who built his fortune by making early investments in Twitter, Skype,Tesla and SpaceX (to name a few), wouldn’t share how much bitcoin he holds or whether he has invested in other cryptocurrencies.\n“There must be something to dogecoin because it makes us all smile but no engineers are working on it,” Drapers says. That includes approval from the Food and Drug Administration of an Alzheimer’s disease drug from Biogen Inc.</p>\n<p>“One of the clouds overhanging the sector went away this week, it’s a very good sign,” Brad Loncar, chief executive officer of Loncar Investments, said of the FDA decision.</p>\n<p>Monday’s decision by the FDA to approve Aduhelm, the first new medicine for the disease in decades, came despite mixed clinical trials, stunning analysts and buoying the sector. More than 15 million shares in the $11 billion <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/EEME\">iShares</a> Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF (IBB) changed hands, the highest daily level since June 2017. The index ended the week up 6%.</p>\n<p>It wasn’t all good news for these drugmakers. Aduhelm’s $56,000 a year price tag and a setback for Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. tempered the rally. The cost of the Biogen drug renewed concern about a regulatory clampdown on pricing, while Vertex announced that it had halted development of a liver disease treatment that the company said was unlikely to have a clinical benefit for patients. Shares of the drug developer plunged 11% on Friday and it’s the worst performer among large-cap biotechs, falling 18% so far this year.</p>\n<p>There’s <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> more key readout biotech investors are waiting on: results from a trial in major depression from Biogen and its partner <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/SAGE\">Sage Therapeutics</a> Inc. With a win for Biogen and a loss for Vertex, the Biogen-Sage results could very well determine which direction biotech goes next, according to RBC analyst Brian Abrahams.
