Here are five reasons why it could successfully achieve that valuation:</p>\n<p><b>#1. \"Gas Station\" Of The Future</b></p>\n<p>NIO is a major designer and manufacturer of high-tech electric vehicles in China and as a result competes with the likes of Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA)in innovative technologies like connectivity, batteries, autonomous mobility, and artificial intelligence.</p>\n<p>NIO's status as an emerging leader in these innovative technologies is perhaps the biggest reason to believe that they could become a multi-bagger from today's already lofty valuation and become a true mega cap.</p>\n<p>For example, its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) potential is immense. The company has already begun building out the infrastructure for this business through its&nbsp;recent partnership&nbsp;with Sinopec(NYSE:SHI)through which they aspire to create a 5,000 battery swap station network by 2024. This will give NIO a decisive network advantage in this space just as it begins to really take off in the world's largest electric vehicle market, enabling it to form partnerships with other automakers in the country and drive strong revenue growth from this business alone. Essentially, this would make NIO the number one \"gas station\" company in China as the country and world enter the age of electrification.</p>\n<p>Given that they possess hundreds of patents in battery swap technology, NIO seems to already have the intellectual property moat necessary to transform this potential into reality. It appears to be merely a matter of time for them to implement and scale now.</p>\n<p><b>#2. Autonomous Mobility &amp; AI Technology</b></p>\n<p>NIO also has a strong foothold on autonomous mobility technology thanks to filing nearly 50 patents in the area and boasts AI-powered smart \"cockpits.\"</p>\n<p>Given that the mobility industry is becoming increasingly software-driven, its intellectual property portfolio here is important as well. Even more important, though, is its competitive positioning to emerge as a long-term leader in the electric vehicle space in China, not only because of the vehicle sales potential it offers, but much more importantly because it is the largest source of consumer data in the world. As a result, NIO will have access to a vast amount of data with which it can improve its A.I. and build one of the best mobility software platforms in the world.</p>\n<p><b>#3. Government Support</b></p>\n<p>Another big reason to believe in NIO's long-term potential stems from the simple fact that it is a leading local company in China in high-priority technology fields. As a result, it will likely enjoy significant support from the Chinese government so that it can serve as a vehicle whereby China can advance its goals towards becoming the pre-eminent global technological superpower.</p>\n<p>This principle has already played out several times to NIO's benefit.</p>\n<p>For example, the&nbsp;government recently gave&nbsp;NIO a RMB7 billion (US$1b) bailout to give it the cash it needed to sustain and scale operations.</p>\n<p>Additionally, government-owned auto manufacturer - Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corp - has also assisted NIO by providing it with manufacturing services, enabling it to scale with minimal additional capital investment.</p>\n<p>Perhaps the most glaring example of this was how the Chinese state media&nbsp;recently successfully harmed&nbsp;the reputation of TSLA - NIO's top foreign rival - to the point where the Elon Musk-led company had to issue an apology.</p>\n<p>Furthermore, the Chinese government is making a major push to transition the automotive market towards electric vehicles in an effort to battle its huge pollution problem. It is achieving these aims by offering purchase rebates and tax exemptions for the industry, while also placing restrictions on new gasoline and diesel powered vehicle permits.</p>\n<p><b>#4. Global Expansion</b></p>\n<p>NIO is also poised to begin expanding its sales into global markets, beginning with Norway. Not only will the company be selling its cars there, but it will be building out local physical and digital infrastructure to create a high quality user-friendly ecosystem to add value to its brand and bolster its competitive positioning. Once it has built significant scale in Norway, it will then have a greater position of strength from which to infiltrate the rest of the European market. Given the geopolitical tensions with the United States at the moment as well as Tesla's dominance in the U.S. electric vehicle market, Europe seems like a much more logical choice to begin global expansion.</p>\n<p><b>#5. Crunching The Numbers</b></p>\n<p>Electric Vehicle sales are already growing exponentially - especially in China - and we expect that number to explode much higher in the years to come.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/00cdeb70c618caeddbbd16df936194ad\" tg-width=\"960\" tg-height=\"572\"></p>\n<p>In fact, while just barely over 1.2 million electric vehicles were sold worldwide in 2017,Bloomberg New Energy Finance&nbsp;expects that number to soar to 60 million by 2040. Not only that, but battery and battery charging infrastructure demand will soar as well.</p>\n<p>If NIO can seize on its early leadership in China in both the electric vehicle and battery charging infrastructure businesses and also successfully scale its business internationally, there is certainly room for it to achieve a $1 trillion valuation by 2040. For example, its gross margin is expected to be nearly 20% in 2021 and 2022. TSLA's gross, meanwhile, is around 23% and its net margin is roughly half of that, or ~11.5%.</p>\n<p>NIO's BaaS business should also be higher margin given that it could be entirely automated and the actual real estate could be leased instead of owned in order to free up capital for higher return investment elsewhere. With continued scaling in both businesses and overall positive trends in the business with reduced costs across the board through automation and enhanced data analytics, we think gross margins of 25% and net margins of 15% by 2040 are entirely feasible.</p>\n<p>If NIO were to grab just 7.5% of the global EV market (TSLA's is currently 11%) by 2040, it would be selling ~4.5 million cars per year. We think this share is actually very feasible when you consider that the majority of electric vehicle sales are expected to be in China and that NIO has an inside track on that market given the support it is receiving from the government.</p>\n<p>If the average sale were for $40,000 per electric vehicle, its profit would be ~$6,000 per vehicle, translating to $27 billion in annual profit from auto sales alone. At a 30x price-to-earnings multiple, that would put the automotive business at a $810 billion valuation.</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, its BaaS business could likely generate $150 in profits per year per vehicle in its sphere in China. By 2030,it is estimated&nbsp;that there will be 50 million electric vehicles on the road in China and that EVs will account for 40% of total auto sales. A very conservative estimate is that the number of EVs on the road in China will double to 100 million by 2040. If NIO's BaaS business serves 20% of the electric vehicles in China by 2040, that would equate to an additional $3+ billion in annual net income. Once again applying a 30x price-to-earnings multiple, that would equate to roughly another $100 billion in market valuation.</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the potential for using its data and autonomous vehicle technology as well as vast BaaS infrastructure to launch an autonomous taxi business network is also immense. While it is hard to know exactly what sort of value this would command as it is hard to project how it would be regulated by the Chinese government and how well consumers would adopt it, it is not a stretch that NIO's scale and capabilities by this point in such a potentially massive market as is offered in China would put the valuation for this business at $100 billion.</p>\n<p>Combining all three businesses gets us to a $1 trillion total valuation under a bullish, but not entirely implausible scenario.</p>\n<p><b>Risk Analysis</b></p>\n<p>While the path to $1 trillion certainly looks viable, there are numerous risks to consider along the way.</p>\n<p>First and foremost, NIO faces a lot of competition from both foreign and domestic companies. TSLA has a large presence in China and overseas and sports a premium brand to go along with an extremely driven and innovative CEO and engineering team. While the Chinese government has helped NIO some already with surviving the TSLA threat, it is unknown the depths that it will have to and be willing to go to continue giving NIO a boost to sustain its competitive standing in its domestic market.</p>\n<p>Of course, NIO also faces competitive pressures from fellow Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers including Baidu(NASDAQ:BIDU), which already has a&nbsp;partnership&nbsp;with a government-owned automaker (BAIC Group) to put 1,000 driverless cars on the roads over the next 3 years as a prelude to establishing an autonomous taxi service in China. Facing off against fellow major domestic players who also have government backing poses another threat to NIO because it means that it cannot solely rely on government assistance to survive and thrive.</p>\n<p>On that same note, it also increases the political risk for NIO. Given that it is not the only horse that China is betting on in the mobility space, if their leadership were to run afoul of the Chinese Communist Party and/or they were to simply lag behind in performance, they could quickly be \"dropped\" by the government and the business could fall into a downward spiral. If Alibaba(NYSE:BABA)&nbsp;could face this, NIO certainly could too. If nothing else, the Chinese government could easily seize some or all of NIO's physical or intellectual property for state use, depriving NIO shareholders of much of their equity value.</p>\n<p>Furthermore, expanding overseas could also be complicated by the fact that China is currently dealing with growing geopolitical tensions with other Asia-Pacific nations, Europe, and the United States. As a result, trade barriers may go up, especially in such high-priority technologies as mobility and autonomous technology. The U.S., Europe, Japan, Korea, and even India have well-established automobile industries and if they feel threatened by a Chinese competitor, they may well decide to throw up barriers to entry in their markets.</p>\n<p>Of course, as the China hustle pointed out, many Chinese companies have a troubling track record of fudging accounting numbers. As a result, investors should always view Chinese company - to include NIO's - financial numbers with a healthy dose of skepticism. While it is very possible - if not likely - that NIO's numbers are completely accurate, it is still a risk that needs to be considered.</p>\n<p>Last, but not least, NIO is currently priced quite expensively as it is still running up massive losses and trades at 71 times expected 2021 gross income. Therefore, the range of potential future outcomes is quite wide and investors could very well be dramatically overpaying by purchasing at today's prices. It should be viewed as a highly speculative investment accordingly.</p>\n<p><b>Investor Takeaway</b></p>\n<p>NIO is currently struggling to turn a profit and has had to be bailed out by the Chinese government. At the same time, its valuation is sky-high. Here are five reasons why it could successfully achieve that valuation:\n#1. \"Gas Station\" Of The Future\nNIO is a major designer and manufacturer of high-tech electric vehicles in China and as a result competes with the likes of Tesla(NASDAQ:TSLA)in innovative technologies like connectivity, batteries, autonomous mobility, and artificial intelligence.\nNIO's status as an emerging leader in these innovative technologies is perhaps the biggest reason to believe that they could become a multi-bagger from today's already lofty valuation and become a true mega cap.\nFor example, its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) potential is immense. The company has already begun building out the infrastructure for this business through its recent partnership with Sinopec(NYSE:SHI)through which they aspire to create a 5,000 battery swap station network by 2024. This will give NIO a decisive network advantage in this space just as it begins to really take off in the world's largest electric vehicle market, enabling it to form partnerships with other automakers in the country and drive strong revenue growth from this business alone. Essentially, this would make NIO the number one \"gas station\" company in China as the country and world enter the age of electrification.\nGiven that they possess hundreds of patents in battery swap technology, NIO seems to already have the intellectual property moat necessary to transform this potential into reality. It appears to be merely a matter of time for them to implement and scale now.\n#2. Autonomous Mobility & AI Technology\nNIO also has a strong foothold on autonomous mobility technology thanks to filing nearly 50 patents in the area and boasts AI-powered smart \"cockpits.\"\nGiven that the mobility industry is becoming increasingly software-driven, its intellectual property portfolio here is important as well. Even more important, though, is its competitive positioning to emerge as a long-term leader in the electric vehicle space in China, not only because of the vehicle sales potential it offers, but much more importantly because it is the largest source of consumer data in the world. As a result, NIO will have access to a vast amount of data with which it can improve its A.I. and build one of the best mobility software platforms in the world.\n#3. Government Support\nAnother big reason to believe in NIO's long-term potential stems from the simple fact that it is a leading local company in China in high-priority technology fields. As a result, it will likely enjoy significant support from the Chinese government so that it can serve as a vehicle whereby China can advance its goals towards becoming the pre-eminent global technological superpower.\nThis principle has already played out several times to NIO's benefit.\nFor example, the government recently gave NIO a RMB7 billion (US$1b) bailout to give it the cash it needed to sustain and scale operations.\nAdditionally, government-owned auto manufacturer - Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corp - has also assisted NIO by providing it with manufacturing services, enabling it to scale with minimal additional capital investment.\nPerhaps the most glaring example of this was how the Chinese state media recently successfully harmed the reputation of TSLA - NIO's top foreign rival - to the point where the Elon Musk-led company had to issue an apology.\nFurthermore, the Chinese government is making a major push to transition the automotive market towards electric vehicles in an effort to battle its huge pollution problem. It is achieving these aims by offering purchase rebates and tax exemptions for the industry, while also placing restrictions on new gasoline and diesel powered vehicle permits.\n#4. Global Expansion\nNIO is also poised to begin expanding its sales into global markets, beginning with Norway. Not only will the company be selling its cars there, but it will be building out local physical and digital infrastructure to create a high quality user-friendly ecosystem to add value to its brand and bolster its competitive positioning. Once it has built significant scale in Norway, it will then have a greater position of strength from which to infiltrate the rest of the European market. Given the geopolitical tensions with the United States at the moment as well as Tesla's dominance in the U.S. electric vehicle market, Europe seems like a much more logical choice to begin global expansion.\n#5. Crunching The Numbers\nElectric Vehicle sales are already growing exponentially - especially in China - and we expect that number to explode much higher in the years to come.\n\nIn fact, while just barely over 1.2 million electric vehicles were sold worldwide in 2017,Bloomberg New Energy Finance expects that number to soar to 60 million by 2040. Not only that, but battery and battery charging infrastructure demand will soar as well.\nIf NIO can seize on its early leadership in China in both the electric vehicle and battery charging infrastructure businesses and also successfully scale its business internationally, there is certainly room for it to achieve a $1 trillion valuation by 2040. For example, its gross margin is expected to be nearly 20% in 2021 and 2022. TSLA's gross, meanwhile, is around 23% and its net margin is roughly half of that, or ~11.5%.\nNIO's BaaS business should also be higher margin given that it could be entirely automated and the actual real estate could be leased instead of owned in order to free up capital for higher return investment elsewhere. With continued scaling in both businesses and overall positive trends in the business with reduced costs across the board through automation and enhanced data analytics, we think gross margins of 25% and net margins of 15% by 2040 are entirely feasible.\nIf NIO were to grab just 7.5% of the global EV market (TSLA's is currently 11%) by 2040, it would be selling ~4.5 million cars per year. We think this share is actually very feasible when you consider that the majority of electric vehicle sales are expected to be in China and that NIO has an inside track on that market given the support it is receiving from the government.\nIf the average sale were for $40,000 per electric vehicle, its profit would be ~$6,000 per vehicle, translating to $27 billion in annual profit from auto sales alone. At a 30x price-to-earnings multiple, that would put the automotive business at a $810 billion valuation.\nMeanwhile, its BaaS business could likely generate $150 in profits per year per vehicle in its sphere in China. By 2030,it is estimated that there will be 50 million electric vehicles on the road in China and that EVs will account for 40% of total auto sales. A very conservative estimate is that the number of EVs on the road in China will double to 100 million by 2040. If NIO's BaaS business serves 20% of the electric vehicles in China by 2040, that would equate to an additional $3+ billion in annual net income. Once again applying a 30x price-to-earnings multiple, that would equate to roughly another $100 billion in market valuation.\nMeanwhile, the potential for using its data and autonomous vehicle technology as well as vast BaaS infrastructure to launch an autonomous taxi business network is also immense. While it is hard to know exactly what sort of value this would command as it is hard to project how it would be regulated by the Chinese government and how well consumers would adopt it, it is not a stretch that NIO's scale and capabilities by this point in such a potentially massive market as is offered in China would put the valuation for this business at $100 billion.\nCombining all three businesses gets us to a $1 trillion total valuation under a bullish, but not entirely implausible scenario.\nRisk Analysis\nWhile the path to $1 trillion certainly looks viable, there are numerous risks to consider along the way.\nFirst and foremost, NIO faces a lot of competition from both foreign and domestic companies. TSLA has a large presence in China and overseas and sports a premium brand to go along with an extremely driven and innovative CEO and engineering team. While the Chinese government has helped NIO some already with surviving the TSLA threat, it is unknown the depths that it will have to and be willing to go to continue giving NIO a boost to sustain its competitive standing in its domestic market.\nOf course, NIO also faces competitive pressures from fellow Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers including Baidu(NASDAQ:BIDU), which already has a partnership with a government-owned automaker (BAIC Group) to put 1,000 driverless cars on the roads over the next 3 years as a prelude to establishing an autonomous taxi service in China. Facing off against fellow major domestic players who also have government backing poses another threat to NIO because it means that it cannot solely rely on government assistance to survive and thrive.\nOn that same note, it also increases the political risk for NIO. Given that it is not the only horse that China is betting on in the mobility space, if their leadership were to run afoul of the Chinese Communist Party and/or they were to simply lag behind in performance, they could quickly be \"dropped\" by the government and the business could fall into a downward spiral. If Alibaba(NYSE:BABA) could face this, NIO certainly could too. If nothing else, the Chinese government could easily seize some or all of NIO's physical or intellectual property for state use, depriving NIO shareholders of much of their equity value.\nFurthermore, expanding overseas could also be complicated by the fact that China is currently dealing with growing geopolitical tensions with other Asia-Pacific nations, Europe, and the United States. As a result, trade barriers may go up, especially in such high-priority technologies as mobility and autonomous technology. The U.S., Europe, Japan, Korea, and even India have well-established automobile industries and if they feel threatened by a Chinese competitor, they may well decide to throw up barriers to entry in their markets.\nOf course, as the China hustle pointed out, many Chinese companies have a troubling track record of fudging accounting numbers. As a result, investors should always view Chinese company - to include NIO's - financial numbers with a healthy dose of skepticism. While it is very possible - if not likely - that NIO's numbers are completely accurate, it is still a risk that needs to be considered.\nLast, but not least, NIO is currently priced quite expensively as it is still running up massive losses and trades at 71 times expected 2021 gross income. Therefore, the range of potential future outcomes is quite wide and investors could very well be dramatically overpaying by purchasing at today's prices. It should be viewed as a highly speculative investment accordingly.\nInvestor Takeaway\nNIO is currently struggling to turn a profit and has had to be bailed out by the Chinese government. At the same time, its valuation is sky-high. Financials and energy posted the biggest sectoral loss on S&amp;P 500, down by 0.81% and 3.33%, respectively.</p>\n<p>“It’s end of the quarter and investors may want to take some profits and rotate out of energy and stick with tech,” said Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist at CFRA Research in New York.</p>\n<p>Stovall expects stocks should continue their near-term climb as investors await the new earnings season, in which year-over-year earnings growth of S&amp;P 500 companies is expected to top 60%.</p>\n<p>The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 150.57 points, or 0.44%, to close at 34,283.27. The S&amp;P 500 pared earlier losses and advanced from Friday’s record high by gaining 9.91 points, or 0.23%, to 4,290.61. The industrial sector has been somewhat weak of late, so I thought I'd outline five long-term growth stocks that have dipped recently.</p>\n<p>They include industrial giant <b>General Electric</b> (NYSE:GE), toolmaker <b>Stanley Black &amp; Decker</b>, (NYSE:SWK) and mid-cap options <b>nVent</b> (NYSE:NVT), <b>Univar</b> (NYSE:UNVR), and <b>Pentair</b> (NYSE:PNR).</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d809e54e32a6274b36ebe37521180fea\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"554\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<h2>General Electric</h2>\n<p>A quick look at these stock performances versus the <b>S&amp;P 500</b> index shows a relatively good performance on a year-to-date basis, but there's no denying the dip in recent weeks.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/1a25fd4ae782ca1e00150871e96e9866\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"387\"><span>Data by YCharts</span></p>\n<p>There doesn't appear to be any unifying theme in the sell-off, other than a general rotation out of industrial stocks by institutional investors.</p>\n<p>However, retail investors don't have to get involved in the constant game of guessing which sector is hot this quarter. That's a consideration that comes to mind when thinking about GE.</p>\n<p>In recent weeks, CEO Larry Culp has been vocal in outlining the company's medium-term earnings and free cash flow (FCF) generation aims, and what he had to say is very positive. In a nutshell, Culp believes $7 billion in FCF is possible by 2023. Culp's plans involve aviation making a strong recovery to 2019 levels of profitability, healthcare continuing to churn out FCF, and restructuring actions at power leading to a solid contribution of $1 billion to $2 billion. Meanwhile, GE Renewable Energy should have a $3 billion offshore wind business by 2023 and support ongoing growth in onshore wind.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0d1e17939d93876f758da3a19f66fca7\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\"><span>Image source Getty Images.</span></p>\n<p>If GE hits $7 billion in FCF in 2023, it will trade (based on its current market cap) on 16.3 times its FCF. That would be an excellent valuation for a company with a long-term growth opportunity from servicing its installed base of aircraft engines, gas turbines, and wind turbines.</p>\n<h2>Pentair and nVent</h2>\n<p>Continuing the discussion of FCF leads us to electrical products company nVent Electric and residential and commercial water treatment company Pentair. However, investors should not think of these two stocks as merely being value investing options because they both have decent growth prospects.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e7c3197d7598789e5bdbe3d90f8869f8\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"387\"><span>Data by YCharts</span></p>\n<p>nVent is a manufacturer of electrical enclosures, fastening solutions, and electric thermal management solutions. It's a solid, albeit unexciting, market, but that's the point! nVent's solutions make up a relatively small part of its customers' project expenditures -- suggesting that it goes under the radar when customers focus on cost-cutting measures. That makes it a useful way to play the \"electrification\" of the economy, whether spending on automation, smart grids, data centers, electrifying buildings, or transportation.</p>\n<p>Pentair's consumer solutions business (pool equipment and home water treatment) received a boost in 2020 as the stay-at-home measures created a boom in spending on home and garden. There were 100,000 new pools built in North America in 2020. Moreover, given that the pool equipment market is primarily replacement, it's likely that the company has a long-term opportunity to sell into the existing pool base of 5.3 million pools in North America.</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, management expects its industrial and flow technologies segment to grow at a low-single-digit rate over the long term. It all adds up to a business growing revenue at a mid-single-digit rate and earnings at a double-digit rate. Management expects $2.5 billion in FCF in the 2022-2025 timeframe. Given that the current market cap is only $10.95 billion, it suggests the company is undervalued.</p>\n<h2>Univar and Stanley Black &amp; Decker</h2>\n<p>Univar is the value play, and Stanley Black &amp; Decker is the hidden growth stock. The case for specialty chemicals distributor Univar rests on the idea that management's refocusing on its core activity, specialty chemical distribution, will pay off. Management aims to raise profit margin to a level similar to <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> of its peers in North America by 2022.</p>\n<p>To get to earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) margin of 9% by 2022 (the stated aim of its so-called \"S22 Program\"), management plans to streamline the company, cut costs, and invest in digital technologies to improve distribution.</p>\n<p>Given that analysts are forecasting $9.4 billion in sales in 2023, Univar could be generating $845 million in EBITDA then. Based on the current enterprise value, or EV (market cap plus net debt) of $6.2 billion, Univar could trade on an EV/EBITDA multiple of just 7.3 times EBITDA in 2023. That would make the stock an excellent value.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d2a81ebda8d55c1c54e0d55d5450de5e\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\"><span>Image source: Getty Images.</span></p>\n<p>Finally, Stanley Black &amp; Decker's growth prospects often fall under the radar. The pandemic boosted its DIY power tools sales, and the housing boom will help its professional tools sales.</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Stanley's leadership in e-commerce helped it win market share during the pandemic. The movement toward electric vehicles should raise the content per vehicle amount for Stanley's fasteners and fittings. The industrial sector has been somewhat weak of late, so I thought I'd outline five long-term growth stocks that have dipped recently.\nThey include industrial giant General Electric (NYSE:GE), toolmaker Stanley Black & Decker, (NYSE:SWK) and mid-cap options nVent (NYSE:NVT), Univar (NYSE:UNVR), and Pentair (NYSE:PNR).\nImage source: Getty Images.\nGeneral Electric\nA quick look at these stock performances versus the S&P 500 index shows a relatively good performance on a year-to-date basis, but there's no denying the dip in recent weeks.\nData by YCharts\nThere doesn't appear to be any unifying theme in the sell-off, other than a general rotation out of industrial stocks by institutional investors.\nHowever, retail investors don't have to get involved in the constant game of guessing which sector is hot this quarter. That's a consideration that comes to mind when thinking about GE.\nIn recent weeks, CEO Larry Culp has been vocal in outlining the company's medium-term earnings and free cash flow (FCF) generation aims, and what he had to say is very positive. In a nutshell, Culp believes $7 billion in FCF is possible by 2023. Culp's plans involve aviation making a strong recovery to 2019 levels of profitability, healthcare continuing to churn out FCF, and restructuring actions at power leading to a solid contribution of $1 billion to $2 billion. Meanwhile, GE Renewable Energy should have a $3 billion offshore wind business by 2023 and support ongoing growth in onshore wind.\nImage source Getty Images.\nIf GE hits $7 billion in FCF in 2023, it will trade (based on its current market cap) on 16.3 times its FCF. That would be an excellent valuation for a company with a long-term growth opportunity from servicing its installed base of aircraft engines, gas turbines, and wind turbines.\nPentair and nVent\nContinuing the discussion of FCF leads us to electrical products company nVent Electric and residential and commercial water treatment company Pentair. However, investors should not think of these two stocks as merely being value investing options because they both have decent growth prospects.\nData by YCharts\nnVent is a manufacturer of electrical enclosures, fastening solutions, and electric thermal management solutions. It's a solid, albeit unexciting, market, but that's the point! nVent's solutions make up a relatively small part of its customers' project expenditures -- suggesting that it goes under the radar when customers focus on cost-cutting measures. That makes it a useful way to play the \"electrification\" of the economy, whether spending on automation, smart grids, data centers, electrifying buildings, or transportation.\nPentair's consumer solutions business (pool equipment and home water treatment) received a boost in 2020 as the stay-at-home measures created a boom in spending on home and garden. There were 100,000 new pools built in North America in 2020. Moreover, given that the pool equipment market is primarily replacement, it's likely that the company has a long-term opportunity to sell into the existing pool base of 5.3 million pools in North America.\nMeanwhile, management expects its industrial and flow technologies segment to grow at a low-single-digit rate over the long term. It all adds up to a business growing revenue at a mid-single-digit rate and earnings at a double-digit rate. Management expects $2.5 billion in FCF in the 2022-2025 timeframe. Given that the current market cap is only $10.95 billion, it suggests the company is undervalued.\nUnivar and Stanley Black & Decker\nUnivar is the value play, and Stanley Black & Decker is the hidden growth stock. The case for specialty chemicals distributor Univar rests on the idea that management's refocusing on its core activity, specialty chemical distribution, will pay off. Management aims to raise profit margin to a level similar to one of its peers in North America by 2022.\nTo get to earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) margin of 9% by 2022 (the stated aim of its so-called \"S22 Program\"), management plans to streamline the company, cut costs, and invest in digital technologies to improve distribution.\nGiven that analysts are forecasting $9.4 billion in sales in 2023, Univar could be generating $845 million in EBITDA then. Based on the current enterprise value, or EV (market cap plus net debt) of $6.2 billion, Univar could trade on an EV/EBITDA multiple of just 7.3 times EBITDA in 2023. That would make the stock an excellent value.\nImage source: Getty Images.\nFinally, Stanley Black & Decker's growth prospects often fall under the radar. The pandemic boosted its DIY power tools sales, and the housing boom will help its professional tools sales.\nMeanwhile, Stanley's leadership in e-commerce helped it win market share during the pandemic. The movement toward electric vehicles should raise the content per vehicle amount for Stanley's fasteners and fittings. Right now, I see <b>Norwegian Cruise Line</b> (NYSE:NCLH), <b><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WBA\">Walgreens Boots Alliance</a></b> (NASDAQ:WBA), and Osprey Bitcoin Trust as vulnerable investments in the near term. Norwegian Cruise Line</h2>\n<p>Last week's costly extraction of a pair of passengers with the COVID-19 virus should be concerning to folks who want to start sailing again. Having unvaccinated passengers hitting exotic ports-of-call in impoverished islands that are not as far along in the recovery cycle is going to make for a long recovery.</p>\n<p>Norwegian Cruise Line is the smallest of the three major cruise line operators, and it's also the most susceptible to any future setbacks. With the cruise line stocks already commanding pre-pandemic enterprise values, there isn't a lot of upside if things go right -- and plenty of downside if things go wrong.</p>\n<h2><b>2. Walgreens Boots Alliance</b></h2>\n<p>There aren't a lot of companies stepping up with fresh quarterly results this week. One that stands out as potentially problematic is Walgreens Boots Alliance. The drugstore chain and provider of pharmacy services reports on Thursday morning.</p>\n<p>Analysts aren't holding out for much. They see $33.76 billion in revenue for the fiscal third quarter, a 3% decline over the past year. Wall Street pros are holding out for a profit of $1.17 a share, but that's exactly what they were forecasting for last year's fiscal third quarter. Walgreens wound up earning just $0.71 a share. That was a crazy quarter in the wake of the pandemic, but Walgreens Boots Alliance has fallen short of analyst profit targets in two of the past four quarters.</p>\n<p>It's also not a good sign that drugstore rival <b>Rite Aid</b> (NYSE:RAD) plummeted 19% last week after posting disappointing quarterly results. Rite Aid -- which sold a bunch of its stores to Walgreens three years ago -- topped expectations, but its guidance proved to be problematic. Walgreens Boots Alliance has a lot to prove this week.</p>\n<h2>3. Osprey Bitcoin Trust</h2>\n<p>You should never pay more than you have to for something, and that's my beef with Osprey Bitcoin Trust, a small exchange-traded trust that owns nothing but <b>Bitcoin</b> (CRYPTO:BTC). Crypto has been falling out of favor in recent weeks, but Osprey Bitcoin Trust hasn't tumbled as hard.</p>\n<p>Over the past three weeks we've seen Osprey Bitcoin Trust's premium increase from 12% to 18% to 26% to what is now 30%. Osprey Bitcoin Trust closed at $14.22 last week. It only owns $10.97 a share in Bitcoin. The bank isn't alone -- big oil executives also believe oil prices could top $100 a barrel as the global economy roars back to life amid tightening supplies.</p>\n<p>That scenario would undoubtedly be a boon for oil stocks. With that in mind, we asked some of our energy contributors what oil stocks they believe are the most compelling buys as oil prices head toward triple digits. Here's why they think <b>Occidental Petroleum</b> (NYSE:OXY), <b>Marathon Oil</b> (NYSE:MRO), and&nbsp;<b>Devon Energy</b> (NYSE:DVN) have some of the best upside potential to triple digit oil.</p>\n<h2>A double boost</h2>\n<p><b>Reuben Gregg Brewer (Occidental Petroleum):</b> I wouldn't call Occidental Petroleum a buy and hold type of energy stock, given the self-inflicted wounds it suffered during the 2020 oil downturn. In fact, the takeover battle for Anadarko Petroleum that it won over <b>Chevron</b> (NYSE:CVX) bordered on the side of hubris. And it left the company ill-prepared for the pandemic-driven drop in oil demand and prices.</p>\n<p>And yet, as oil rebounds, with some suggesting that $100 a barrel is a real possibility, more aggressive investors looking for a way to play such a commodity move might still be interested. There's two reasons for this. First, as an oil driller Occidental Petroleum will clearly benefit from a big rise in this key commodity. But the bigger reason is that such an increase will make it easier for management to deal with the lingering impacts of the Anadarko deal, notably its still heavily leveraged balance sheet.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2d3bf87a2a04b5d483b03e7e6d3edabf\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"435\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>OXY Debt to Equity Ratio data by YCharts</span></p>\n<p>So, there's the direct top- and bottom-line benefit here (which all energy companies will likely see) and the follow-on effect of an improving financial structure. Either <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> alone would likely get investors excited, but both together could lead to a complete reevaluation of the company's future -- for the better this time around. The Anadarko misstep should probably keep conservative investors away, but more aggressive types might view Occidental, warts and all, as something of a leveraged bet.</p>\n<h2>Minting billions of dollars</h2>\n<p><b>Neha Chamaria</b> <b>(Marathon Oil):</b> Commodity prices don't just drive Marathon Oil's revenue and cash flows, but they're also the single biggest deciding factor behind the company's capital spending and capital allocation plans, which is why the ongoing rally in crude prices is great news for Marathon Oil. Importantly, crude is hitting two-year highs even as I write this, but Marathon Oil stock is still trading below its 2019 level.</p>\n<p>Consider this: Marathon expects to generate free cash flow (FCF) worth $1.1 billion this year at an average WTI crude price of $50 per barrel. At $60 a barrel, the company could generate as much as $1.6 billion in FCF! With crude having already surpassed $70 per barrel as of this writing, Marathon should therefore be able to generate even higher cash flows and use the extra cash to pay down more debt and reward shareholders with bigger returns. As of the end of the first quarter, Marathon had already repaid $500 million in debt and was targeting another $500 million debt reduction this year. It also raised its quarterly dividend by 33% in Q1.</p>\n<p>A higher oil-price environment, in fact, should set Marathon up for solid growth for years to come, considering it could generate FCF worth nearly $5 billion over the next five years at an average crude price of only $50 per barrel. And it isn't just oil prices. While flexing production as per market conditions, the company is also tightening its grip on costs, and aims to cut its production and general and administration expenses combined by nearly 30% this year versus 2019 levels. With management prioritizing the dividend and debt reduction, Marathon shareholders have a lot to look forward to as long as oil keeps rising.</p>\n<h2>A monster dividend stock as oil prices keep rising</h2>\n<p><b>Matt DiLallo&nbsp;(Devon Energy):&nbsp;</b>Investors in Devon Energy reap immediate dividends as oil prices rise thanks to its unique variable dividend framework. The oil and gas producer plans to pay out up to half of the excess cash it generates each quarter to investors via a variable dividend. As oil prices rise, so does that payout.</p>\n<p>The company paid its first variable dividend this past March based on its fourth-quarter cash flow. It distributed 50% of its excess cash, which worked out to $0.19 per share. That was almost double its fixed quarterly dividend of $0.11 per share. The company will make its next variable payout at the end of this month. While it's only paying out 48% of its excess cash this quarter, at $0.23 per share, it's 13% above the previous quarter's rate and more than double its base quarterly rate. Driving that increase was the improvement in oil prices from an average of $42.65 a barrel in the fourth quarter to $57.87 in the first quarter.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>With oil prices continuing to rise -- they're close to $75 a barrel right now -- Devon's variable dividend payments should grow even bigger. If oil does indeed hit triple digits again, Devon could pay a monster variable dividend. The banking giant believes that supply and demand imbalances in the oil market will push crude prices up to $100 a barrel by next year. The bank isn't alone -- big oil executives also believe oil prices could top $100 a barrel as the global economy roars back to life amid tightening supplies.\nThat scenario would undoubtedly be a boon for oil stocks. With that in mind, we asked some of our energy contributors what oil stocks they believe are the most compelling buys as oil prices head toward triple digits. Here's why they think Occidental Petroleum (NYSE:OXY), Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO), and Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN) have some of the best upside potential to triple digit oil.\nA double boost\nReuben Gregg Brewer (Occidental Petroleum): I wouldn't call Occidental Petroleum a buy and hold type of energy stock, given the self-inflicted wounds it suffered during the 2020 oil downturn. In fact, the takeover battle for Anadarko Petroleum that it won over Chevron (NYSE:CVX) bordered on the side of hubris. And it left the company ill-prepared for the pandemic-driven drop in oil demand and prices.\nAnd yet, as oil rebounds, with some suggesting that $100 a barrel is a real possibility, more aggressive investors looking for a way to play such a commodity move might still be interested. There's two reasons for this. First, as an oil driller Occidental Petroleum will clearly benefit from a big rise in this key commodity. But the bigger reason is that such an increase will make it easier for management to deal with the lingering impacts of the Anadarko deal, notably its still heavily leveraged balance sheet.\nOXY Debt to Equity Ratio data by YCharts\nSo, there's the direct top- and bottom-line benefit here (which all energy companies will likely see) and the follow-on effect of an improving financial structure. Either one alone would likely get investors excited, but both together could lead to a complete reevaluation of the company's future -- for the better this time around. The Anadarko misstep should probably keep conservative investors away, but more aggressive types might view Occidental, warts and all, as something of a leveraged bet.\nMinting billions of dollars\nNeha Chamaria (Marathon Oil): Commodity prices don't just drive Marathon Oil's revenue and cash flows, but they're also the single biggest deciding factor behind the company's capital spending and capital allocation plans, which is why the ongoing rally in crude prices is great news for Marathon Oil. Importantly, crude is hitting two-year highs even as I write this, but Marathon Oil stock is still trading below its 2019 level.\nConsider this: Marathon expects to generate free cash flow (FCF) worth $1.1 billion this year at an average WTI crude price of $50 per barrel. At $60 a barrel, the company could generate as much as $1.6 billion in FCF! With crude having already surpassed $70 per barrel as of this writing, Marathon should therefore be able to generate even higher cash flows and use the extra cash to pay down more debt and reward shareholders with bigger returns. As of the end of the first quarter, Marathon had already repaid $500 million in debt and was targeting another $500 million debt reduction this year. It also raised its quarterly dividend by 33% in Q1.\nA higher oil-price environment, in fact, should set Marathon up for solid growth for years to come, considering it could generate FCF worth nearly $5 billion over the next five years at an average crude price of only $50 per barrel. And it isn't just oil prices. While flexing production as per market conditions, the company is also tightening its grip on costs, and aims to cut its production and general and administration expenses combined by nearly 30% this year versus 2019 levels. With management prioritizing the dividend and debt reduction, Marathon shareholders have a lot to look forward to as long as oil keeps rising.\nA monster dividend stock as oil prices keep rising\nMatt DiLallo (Devon Energy): Investors in Devon Energy reap immediate dividends as oil prices rise thanks to its unique variable dividend framework. The oil and gas producer plans to pay out up to half of the excess cash it generates each quarter to investors via a variable dividend. As oil prices rise, so does that payout.\nThe company paid its first variable dividend this past March based on its fourth-quarter cash flow. It distributed 50% of its excess cash, which worked out to $0.19 per share. That was almost double its fixed quarterly dividend of $0.11 per share. The company will make its next variable payout at the end of this month. While it's only paying out 48% of its excess cash this quarter, at $0.23 per share, it's 13% above the previous quarter's rate and more than double its base quarterly rate. Driving that increase was the improvement in oil prices from an average of $42.65 a barrel in the fourth quarter to $57.87 in the first quarter. \nWith oil prices continuing to rise -- they're close to $75 a barrel right now -- Devon's variable dividend payments should grow even bigger. If oil does indeed hit triple digits again, Devon could pay a monster variable dividend.
