@JC888
US Debt Limit - on to Part 2 - Vote & Approve. Looks like US Congress (Senate & House of Representatives) is going ahead with Memorial Day celebration on Mon (29 May) afterall. With the “deal” finally hammered out, it’s now left to be voted by the Senate (Democrat majority) on Wed (31 May), eve of original x-date (01 Jun) put forth by Treasury Secretary, Ms Janet Yellen. There is still a “slim” chance that it might not get “approved” at first reading. I wonder, which (if any) Senator will be sufficiently “bold & stupid” to put his/her head on the chopping board by voting against the deal during such tight rope times. Strangely enough, market was “quietly confident” that the standoff between Mr McCarthy & Mr Biden could be resolved as seen by the US market rallying to a “healthy” close ahead of the long weekend holiday (see above table). By the time market closed: DJIA was upped 1.00% (+328.69 to 33,093.34). S&P 500 was upped 1.30% (+54.17 to 4,205.45). Nasdaq was upped 2.19% (+277.59 to 12,975.69) 25 points shy of the13,000 level; that was last visited in Aug, 2022. No denying that Tech stocks were “responsible” for returning index to its “peak” again. Timely ! I confess! I really thought the Memorial Day, public holiday was a “timely breather” for everyone to have some quiet time to gather their thoughts and be prepared to do the “right” thing when voting cometh. Putting the “deal” aside until Wed (31 May), in the meantime what could we do during this 1-day break to prepare ourselves when trading resumes tomorrow Tue, 30 May 2023? Of late, the most high profile topic falls squarely on the subject of “Artificial Intelligence (AI)”. I imagine it would remain so, for the coming weeks, if not months - so long as there is sufficient “fuel” to keep this subject burning. Admittedly I posted about it too Nvidia Price Will Gain +25%. I Won't Buy Though (click to read & give a “LIKe” ok, tks) last Thu, 25 May. I still have an eye on Nvidia but that’s about it until the next opportunity presents itself. Will cross that bridge when I reach it. Objectively speaking, AI could be embedded in applications in various domains/disciplines: Semiconductors. Search engines. Robotics. Automation. Health care and etc….. AI is not necessary semiconductor chip ! This means if we keep our eyes sufficiently wide, we could still find “gem” stocks to invest in that is not necessary semiconductors (eg. $NVIDIA Corp(NVDA)$ , $Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)$ etc…). One possibility “worth” exploring is none other than China’s equivalent of Google - $Baidu(BIDU)$. My Reasons On Why Not Baidu: (1) It is the largest internet search engine in China (2) It is also a pioneer in (a) AI research & (b) AI development. (3) It has launched several AI products and services. DuerOS (a voice assistant). Apollo (an open-source autonomous driving platform). Xiaodu (a smart speaker). iQiyi (Baidu’s leading online video streaming platform) that leverages on AI to enhance its content recommendation and advertising. Baidu - past 1 year price movement It bottomed at $76.57 on 31 Oct 2022. Based on last Friday’s closing price of $126.08; this Tech giant has gained +64.66%. Latest announcement If the above facts & figures are not enticing enough, below is the latest announcement from Baidu’s CEO, Robin Li: Baidu will soon be launching a new version of the large-language model (LLM) powering its ChatGPT-style service. The model will be used to upgrade the technology behind its suite of artificial intelligence products, including Ernie Bot (its ChatGPT-like). Equally important, Baidu will be reworking all its products. Not about integrating or accessing AI but reworking and restructuring - a mammoth task with mammoth benefits when done “right”. CEO Robin Li has also joined the chorus, joining calls from peers OpenAI Inc. and Google for more oversight over the nascent sector - formulate rules to prevent AI from getting out of control. Is there anything not to like about Baidu? Do you think Large Language Model (LLM) will take off in a big way in China? Do you think Baidu is worth a second look? Please give a “LIKe” to this post ok. Thanks! The rating is very important to me! Pls feel free to “Share” and “Re-post” as well. Equally important! Thanks.
