Options Spy: Tech stocks sluggish, sell call volume surges

Wall Street ended a three-week winning streak as investors digested worse-than-expected Apple earnings and a mixed July payrolls report. Apple plunged 4.8%, its biggest one-day drop in 10 months, wiping more than $160 billion off its market value overnight, while Amazon surged 8.3%, Posting its best day since November 10, 2022. Major U.S. indexes finished the week with the Dow Jones down 1.1 percent for the week. The S&P was down 2.27 percent for the week, and the index fell 2.85 percent, its worst weekly performance since March. In July, the number of non-farm employment in the United States increased by 187,000, less than the expected 200,000, the smallest increase since December 2020, and the unemployment rate was 3.5%, which was also lower than the forecast and the previous value of 3.6%. Inflation data this week could help Wall Street rally, with investors getting the July consumer Price Index on Thursday. The general producer price index (PPI) for July is scheduled for release on Friday (11th). Earnings season continues to kick off, and corporate profits aren't slowing as much as previously expected. About 84 percent of S&P 500 companies have reported their latest earnings, with 80 percent beating Wall Street expectations, according to FactSet. Big data company $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ will report second-quarter 2023 earnings on Monday after the U.S. stock market closes. The stock has surged 183% so far this year on the back of the AI boom. Jefferies analyst Brent Thill said the guidance was "achievable, but the upside is limited because there are some unknowns in the business."
