Options Spy | The surge in call selling indicates continued pressure on technology stocks

Technology stocks rose strongly as investors awaited Apple's results, with the S&P and Nasdaq bouncing back from a correction last week and Tesla falling below $200 a share for the first time since early June.

After a busy week of earnings from big tech giants, the market will be focused on three major events this week: the latest Fed interest rate policy decision, Apple earnings and non-farm payrolls.

The Fed, which has raised rates 11 times since it began tightening policy in March 2022, is widely expected to hold rates steady this week for a second straight pause, with the central bank expected to finish raising rates at least through 2023.

The rate on the 10-year Treasury began to jump above 5 percent last week, but was trading around 4.89 percent on Monday. The October nonfarm payrolls report is due on Friday, and investors are hoping that a slowing labor market will give the Fed comfort to stay its hand for the rest of the year.

Apple reports earnings after the bell on Thursday, and iPhone sales will be a key focus. The stock is currently in the midst of a correction, down about 15% from its 52-week high.

In addition, the market reported that General Motors and the United Auto Workers (UAW) reached a tentative agreement on Monday, the last of the three major U.S. automakers to reach a deal with the union to quell the wave of auto workers' strikes.
