Can the total market value of "Magnificent 7" continue to rise?

The "Magnificent 7", composed of the seven most valuable American public companies, have a combined market value that is equivalent to the total stock markets of Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

These seven companies are $Amazon.com(AMZN)$ $Apple(AAPL)$ $Alphabet(GOOG)$ $Alphabet(GOOGL)$ $Microsoft(MSFT)$ $Meta Platforms, Inc.(META)$ $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ $NVIDIA Corp(NVDA)$.

According to data from Torsten Slok, chief economist at Apollo Global Management, Microsoft's market value is approximately $2.8 trillion, making it the second largest U.S. stock after Apple, with a market value equivalent to that of the entire Canadian stock market.

Since the beginning of this year, Microsoft's stock price has increased by 2%, making it one of the better performing large tech stocks.

The ratio between the valuation of the seven giants and the market value of the entire Russell 2000 $iShares Russell 2000 ETF(IWM)$ index has retreated from the record high reached last autumn. This is mainly due to the catch-up rally in small-cap stocks, which has caused the Russell 2000 index to rise by nearly 19%.

Data shows that the total market value of the seven giants is still close to $12 trillion, which is approximately four times the market value of the entire Russell 2000 index.

To be sure, the seven giants have performed mixed since the beginning of the year. Data shows that Tesla is the worst performing company among the seven giants so far in 2024, with its stock price down 5.7%.

Next is Apple, which has seen its stock price fall by 4.2% after analysts downgraded their ratings. Meanwhile, chipmaker and AI giant NVIDIA has seen its stock price rise by 9.3%.

Meta Platforms' shares have risen by 1.3% in 2024; Alphabet Inc.'s Class A shares have risen by 0.8%; Amazon shares have fallen by 0.6%. Microsoft shares have risen by 2%.

All seven giants are among the top 10 most valuable companies in the $S&P 500(.SPX)$ index. However, $Berkshire Hathaway(BRK.B)$ $Berkshire Hathaway(BRK.A)$ 's market value has surpassed Tesla to become the seventh most valuable company in the S&P 500 index recently .
