Are the Tesla-wannabes threatened by the latest EV entrant?

The Chinese electric vehicle market is getting more and more crowded, with China's smartphone giant $XIAOMI-W(01810)$ being the latest to join the EV party with the introduction of its first EV SU7 and its ambition to become one of the world's top 5 automakers.

While Xiaomi's jumping onto the EV bandwagon will certainly give other aspiring Tesla-wannabes a hard run for their money, I believe that the Chinese EV startup trio $NIO-SW(09866)$ $XPENG-W(09868)$ and $LI AUTO-W(02015)$ with their early mover advantage have developed considerable competitive advantage in building their moats to defend their positions.

Nio, XPeng and Li Auto have also been building win-win partnerships with established automotive incumbents to extend their geographical reach, as well as expanding aggressively overseas in order to be less dependent on their Chinese domestic market. Like $BYD COMPANY(01211)$ has overtaken Tesla to be the globally largest EV maker in terms of vehicle quantity and has been Chinese EV market leader, Nio, XPeng and Li Auto are bound to defend their market shares aggressively and not let up without a fight.

Hopefully, the EV players are not going to engage in any long-lasting price war which will only be detrimental to the entire EV industry as it erodes the profitability of all.
