Iowa caucus results: Trump wins, DeSantis edges Haley for second place

On Monday Eastern Time, former US President Trump won the Iowa caucuses.

Typically, attendees of political victory parties gather early to watch the results come in and erupt in cheers when a candidate wins. But the call declaring Trump the winner of the Iowa caucuses came so early that the former president had not yet arrived, nor had his invited guests. So the round cocktail table, covered with a black tablecloth, was empty.

The election campaign of #US Presidential Election# has officially kicked off.

The US presidential election starts the primary election in Iowa on January 15th and will end on November 5th, Presidential Election Day.

The White House presidential campaign will last 294 days, starting with the primaries within the Republican and Democratic parties, then the two parties will hold a national conference to select the official presidential candidate, and then there will be 3 presidential debates, in addition to a candidate for the vice presidential position, debate among people until referendum day.

The new president will be sworn in on January 20, 2025, and will go to the White House after a ceremony in Congress.

What is a primary election?

Primary elections are elections held by the two major political parties in all fifty U.S. states and Washington, D.C., and five U.S. territories.

This will take place in several phases, starting in Iowa on January 15th of this year, ending on June 4th in New Jersey and New Mexico for Republicans, and on June 8th for Democrats. The primaries see candidates from various parties competing to win the party's ticket to the national-level presidential election.

If a candidate wins the primary, he or she either wins all of the state's delegates or a certain percentage of the delegates, depending on each state's election rules. These delegates vote for the winning candidate at the party's national convention.
