Countercyclical and long-term investing
My family lives in Singapore. Both my wife and I are working, we own a HDB flat without house loan. We have thousands of cash in hand. So it's essential to invest in my family case.
Our cash comes from hard earned salary, so we value it to accept moderate risk.
I am a market timer, try to reduce risk. Most of time I put money in Singapore saving bond and T bill, and a little money in balanced fund as a regular savings plan.
When a event happens I start investment in stocks market.
COVID-19 breakout, I invested in oil company stocks, close position when vaccine were available for major economic countries.
It's a countercyclical and long-term investing in my current investment. US Federal reserve interest hikes, higher and longer, dividend stocks like bonds, price drops and dividend yields increase. I followed FOMC meeting pace to add my position.
It entered the third year of interest rates hikes. US Federal higher and longer interest is a filter, those dividend stocks still commitment high dividend yield are true value stocks. No company can disguise a blue chip for constant years dividend payment.
My portfolio were well positioned, capital P/L breakeven, collected 18k dividends passive income a year.
Almost all my position generate 4-9% dividend yield, STI index stocks have better liquidity but lower dividend yield. I believe I can get both capital gains and dividend in the near future. US Federal rate cut can happen anytime.
I earn less than typical investors in the bull market but I loss less in the bear market.I added the dividend stocks position in countercyclical when interest rates hikes and assets price drops. I only fully realise the profits when US Fed rate goes back to neutral. This cycle seems 4-5 years. I play countercyclical and long-term investing now.
