The Winning Stocks/ETFs In My Mid Year Review 2024
@koolgal:🌟🌟🌟Mid Year is a good time to review my portfolio performance and reflect on my progress. The best performance surprisingly came from my US stock portfolio which comprise mainly of ETFs. I love to invest in ETFs since they offer a low cost, value for money choice as I am just a small retail investor with limited funds. ETFs provide me with an easy solution and offer a diversified allocation to whatever sector I am keen to invest in. My best performing ETF is $Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund(XLE)$ which gives me instant access to the US Oil Giants such as Exxon Mobil, Chevron and Warren Buffett's favourite oil company $Occidental(OXY)$ I am currently up 52%. I have started investing in XLE prior to the Ukraine war. Due to the ban on Russian oil by US and its allies, the US Oil Giants have been doing well. Then came the Middle East geopolitical conflict in Palestine. Both wars are still ongoing. XLE also pays nice, juicy dividends. The current dividend yield is 3.25% paid every 3 months. My second best performing ETF is $SPDR Portfolio S&P 1500 Composite Stock Market ETF(SPTM)$ . SPTM represents 90% of the investable US equity market. This ETF is designed to measure the performance of the large, mid and small capped segments of the US equity market. SPTM consists of stocks included in the S&P500 Index, the S&P Midcap 400 Index and the S&P Smallcap 600 Index. In order to qualify and be included in the underlying index, companies should have positive aggregate earnings over 4 most recent quarters and for the most recent quarter. In other words, the index does the heavy lifting for me, weeding out the non performing companies and adding in the profitable ones. SPTM also pays quarterly dividends. The current dividend yield is 1.31%. The expense ratio is a low 0.03%. I am currently up 28% in SPTM. I have also invested in $STI ETF(ES3.SI)$ which is Singapore's largest and oldest ETF. The STI ETF represents 30 of Singapore 's best and strongest blue chips stocks. In the Top 10 holdings, these include the 3 Big Singapore Banks DBS, OCBC and UOB as well as Singtel, Capital Integrated Commercial Trust, Singapore Airlines, Jardine Matheson, Capitaland Ascendas REIT, Keppel Ltd and Singapore Exchange. The current dividend yield of STI ETF is 4.19% paid every 6 months. The expense ratio is 0.30%. I am currently up 20% on STI ETF. My best performing stock is $Alphabet(GOOGL)$ of which I am up 64%. Google recently hit its all time high at USD 192.26. This is due to the explosive rally on AI Stocks especially the Magnificent 7. Google is also the leader in Search Engine globally with 92% of the market share. Bing which is owned by Microsoft only has 3% market share. I had a scare when Google dropped below USD 100 on 2022 but I held on since I have strong conviction in the company. Google surprised me by paying dividends this year as it has never done so before. The current dividend yield is 0.42%. I am really glad that I did not panic sell my Google stock. Next to Google, my 2nd best stock is $DBS Group Holdings(D05.SI)$ It is the largest bank not only in Singapore but in the Asean region with market capitalisation of SGD 106.5 billion. DBS is one of my earliest stocks that I have invested in 2020. Since then its performance has been outstanding. DBS has been generous to its shareholders with increasing dividends and even bonus shares in 2024. DBS pays dividends every quarter. The current dividend yield is 5.09%. To me, investing is a marathon, not a sprint. My basic strategy is to buy and hold great stocks and ETFs long term and let the magic of compounding happen over time. I do not worry too much about volatility in the markets because that is the price I am prepared to pay to experience outsized gains long term. As Warren Buffett likes to say "The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient" and just like him, my favourite holding period is Forever! @TigerEvents @TigerStars @MillionaireTiger @Tiger_comments @Daily_Discussion @CaptainTiger
