  • It is not that they are trading to break even, it might be that they are unable to close a trade to take a loss. Since the market is generally on the rise, they might think the stock that they bought will eventually rise back to the buy price where they can finally close without taking a loss. What they are missing out is the opportunity cost of investing in another trade.
