Iβm convinced $AMZNβs setup into earnings is as much about sentiment shift as it is about numbers. With Metaβs and Microsoftβs blockbuster results, Amazon now walks into a higher-expectation gauntlet, especially for AWS. After-hours momentum (+3%) reflects that optimism, but I see turbulence under the surface.
Iβm especially focused on the resistance at $241.30. Itβs a clear battleground; a break would confirm the bull leg toward the Fib extensions at $264 and $292. But the Keltner and Bollinger bands (4H chart) show compression near the upper envelope, and RSI is nudging 76 on weekly, which signals overbought territory. The daily volume shelf around $229 to $231 could offer support on pullbacks.
Earnings are expected post-market with $162B revenue (+9.4% YoY) and $1.31 EPS (+3.6%). AWS is still a beast, forecasted at $30.7B (+17.4%) revenue and 39.5% margins, but the margin retention is in question amid Azure and Google Cloud gains. Amazonβs dominance slipped from 33% to 29% share. Management is leaning heavily into AI-led efficiency to fight back.
Tariff risk is real. Trade policy uncertainty continues to loom, with 60% of Amazonβs revenue sourced domestically but products globally. Analysts diverge: Citi and Needham are bullish on margin expansion and Prime Dayβs structural gains, while Deutsche flags consumer resilience as the safety net if tariffs flare again.
Technically, the breakout from the consolidation channel looks clean, but the run to $238 has priced in a lot. Iβm not initiating here. I want to see how the stock digests earnings volatility and whether it can close above $241.31 with conviction. Anything short of that, and Iβm rotating toward premium selling until the cloud narrative matures further.
Does Amazon have enough AWS firepower left to justify a $250+ breakout in Q3, or is this run already front-loaded?
