Next IT Wave Is Here. I think it is fairly certain to proclaim that the next wave after AI, will be quantum computing (QC). For all you know, it might even supersede AI given its “speed of light” processing prowess and weaker energy consumption appetite. A “greener” technology if I may add, what’s not to like ? The Hurdle. The one key hurdle that QC needs to overcome, it the ability to maintain qubit stability while scaling up the number of qubits needed to perform useful computations reliably. Innovations in quantum materials, new qubit designs, error correction techniques, and control methods continue to be the focus of intense research to overcome this obstacle. The Usefulness. QC in 2025 is transitioning from lab to practical business applications, as we speak. Early adopters include businesses from industries/ sectors like: Finance. Pharmaceuticals. Logistics. Energy. QC is enhancing complex simulations, optimization, and cryptography processing - tasks that classical computers struggle with. Although full-scale commercial deployment is still a work-in-progress, businesses at the forefront of technology are already harnessing quantum computing through cloud-based platforms and hybrid quantum-classical models to gain competitive advantages in the respective industries. Namely: Risk management in Finance. Drug discovery in Pharmaceuticals. Supply chain optimization in Logistics. Energy efficiency in Energy. The Takeoffs. Wall Streets has been become quietly ‘confident’ about QC stocks from mid-September 2025 onwards, staking their claims and in the process allowing quantum stocks to soar to new highs. Right now, quantum computing is still in its nascent state, and no company or stock is the clear leader. That also mean the #1 spot is still open for anyone to claim. This makes investing in quantum stocks tricky because a stock one owns today could end up at the bottom if it fails to take off. How can you invest in quantum stocks while keeping the risks at bay ? One option worth exploring is ETF - $WisdomTree Quantum Computing Fund(WQTM)$ About WQTM. Facts & Numbers. It is a predominant quantum stocks ETF, incepted on 27 Aug 2025 and domiciled in Ireland. It offers global exposure to QC companies thru’ the WisdomTree Classiq Quantum Computing Index. As of October 2025, the funds’ size is EUR 34 million. Dividend Policy is of type accumulating, that means all dividends are reinvested into the funds. Investment Focus & Index. WQTM tracks the WisdomTree Classiq Quantum Computing Index, investing in companies globally that are actively engaged in quantum computing technology. The fund targets the high-growth technology sector, with its index constituents focused on breakthroughs in (a) quantum hardware, (b) software, and (c) services Holding & Sector Breakdown Top 5 Holdings (Weight in Portfolio): $Rigetti Computing(RGTI)$ (15.03%) $D-Wave Quantum Inc.(QBTS)$ (10.14%) $IONQ Inc.(IONQ)$ (8.69%) Quantum Computing Inc (QUBT) (4.49%) $Intel(INTC)$ (4.35%) Above top 5 holdings’ share makes up 38.20% of the portfolio. It has GOOGL, IBM and NVDA in its holdings too but their weightage are outside of the top 5 holdings (for now). Sector Allocation: The 4 main sectors (with proportions) in WQTM ETF: Technology: 81.78% Communication Services: 7.27% Industrials: 3.49% Consumer Cyclical: 2.34% Performance. As of Fri, 24 Oct 2025 closing Originally listed in EU on 27 Aug 2025 and domiciled in Ireland, it was subsequently listed in the US on 9 Oct 2025 on the Cboe BZX Exchange. On its first US trading day, WQTM opened at $29.87 and closed at $30.53. Looking at the chart (see above), the ETF took off thereafter and peaked on 15 Oct 2025; at $31.57; that’s a +5.69%, a week into listing in the US. Last week when all QC stocks dipped across the board, WQTM ended 22 Oct 2025 at $26.95; lower than its listing price. But all that changed by Friday, when recovery returned, WQTM ended 24 Oct 2025 at $28.59; still lower than its listing price - spelling BARGAIN ! What’s To Like ? Its recent entry makes its pricing still attractive. There are other quantum stocks ETFs out in the market eg. Defiance Quantum ETF (QTUM). At $107.23 per unit (as of 22 Oct 2025), is this really the price to pay for a nascent industry pure play? With nearly 40% of its assets in the top five quantum companies, the “concentration” makes its performance sensitive to breakthroughs or setbacks faced by these firms. Although the ETF is predominantly concentrated in US technology stocks, it has notable exposure / diversification in both Japan and the Eurozone, as well. Objectively, WQTM provides a concentrated yet dynamic bet on quantum computing. Other than that, be mindful of ‘all things quantum’ volatility and this ETF short operational track record. The Rumours. The WSJ has reported that US government is in talks with several quantum-computing companies to take equity stakes in exchange for federal funding. Companies such as IONQ, RGTI & QBTS are talking with the US government about letting it buy shares in their businesses. The deals would include at least $10 million in federal funding for each company. The WSJ has a strong track record of uncovering important and exclusive information, making it respected for "sniffing out" well-kept news. Jump in before WQTM & QC stocks takeoff?
