META BUILT THE AI. SHOPIFY GOT THE POP. WHY?
$Meta Platforms, Inc.(META)$ slipped 0.63% to $736.60 on Tuesday after jumping 11.43% the previous session.
At first glance, that looks like simple profit-taking ahead of Meta Connect.
But there’s a more interesting story underneath.
Muse is becoming the centre of the conversation — yet some of the biggest stock moves are happening in the companies connecting to it.
Muse has reportedly climbed to the top of the U.S. mobile download charts, while Shopify jumped more than 7% after integrating its Shop Pay checkout with Muse. Shopify had gained almost 15% across the two sessions.
That creates an interesting investment question:
🧩 Is Muse an app — or a platform?
If consumers start using Muse to search, shop, book and complete tasks, the value could extend far beyond the assistant itself.
Think about the old internet:
Search → Google
Mobile apps → Apple / Google
E-commerce → Amazon / Shopify
AI agents could create a new layer:
Intent → AI agent → business → transaction
And that’s where things get interesting.
Shopify could benefit because merchants can be reached through Muse and checkout can happen through Shop Pay. PayPal has also announced a Muse integration.
But Meta potentially controls the front door.
If Muse becomes the place where consumers express what they want, Meta could eventually have something even more valuable than another standalone app:
the consumer intent layer.
⚠️ But there’s a catch
Downloads don’t equal monetisation.
Muse has shown impressive early adoption, but Meta still needs to demonstrate how that usage turns into sustainable revenue.
And there is already resistance.
Amazon has blocked Muse’s agentic shopping access, showing that major platforms may not be happy handing the customer relationship to an AI intermediary.
So perhaps Tuesday’s META weakness isn’t necessarily about investors losing faith in Muse.
It could simply be the market asking:
“Great product. But who captures the economics?”
🔥 QUESTION: If Muse becomes a major AI platform, would you rather own the platform itself ($META) or the companies providing the commerce/payment infrastructure around it ($SHOP, $PYPL)?
