$NU Is Down 38%. Here’s What the Market Is Pricing In

$Nu Holdings Ltd.(NU)$ is now in a 38 % drawdown, with four major narratives weighing on the stock:

1️⃣ Trade War

US tariffs are putting pressure on two of Nu’s most important markets.

Mexico sends roughly 80% of its exports to the US, while Brazil has also faced significant US tariffs.

Slower growth can pressure consumer spending, loan demand and repayment behavior.

2️⃣ Iran War

The conflict and disruption around the Strait of Hormuz pushed oil above $100, adding pressure to fuel and food prices across Latin America.

Higher inflation squeezes household budgets and raises concerns about consumer credit quality.

3️⃣ Brazil Macro

Brazil’s benchmark rate is around 14%, keeping borrowing costs elevated and weighing on spending and credit growth.

This matters because Brazil accounts for roughly 118M of Nu’s 139M customers.

High rates, weaker growth and election uncertainty have all contributed to the discount investors are putting on Brazil-exposed financial stocks.

4️⃣ The Monzo M&A Rumor

Reports that Nu is discussing a potential acquisition of UK bank Monzo for as much as $13B triggered another sharp selloff.

The market’s concern is straightforward: paying a large premium for European expansion could divert capital from Nu’s existing Latin American business and its newly launched US offering.

But the key question is how much of this is temporary versus structural.

Nu generated more than $1B in net income in Q2 2026, while revenue increased 39% YoY.

The company now serves roughly 139M customers, giving it a massive existing customer base to monetize over time.

The next phase of the story comes down to credit quality, Brazil’s macro environment, US customer growth and whether any Monzo deal actually happens — and at what price.

After a 34% drawdown, those are the numbers I’ll be watching most closely.

Can $NU reclaim $18 by year-end? The path will likely depend on how quickly these four overhangs start to clear.
