Sembcorp Marine‘s Brazilian yard has been awarded an around US$150 million (S$200 million) engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from state-owned Emgepron, which is tied to Brazil’s Ministry of Defence, the Singapore-listed company said Tuesday.

The contract is for a newbuild support vessel, the NApAnt, for the Brazilian Navy for scientific research in the Antarctic, SembMarine said ina filing to SGX. The vessel will be built to navigational ice field standards, the filing said.

The vessel is being built via the Brazilian yard to comply with local-content requirements, SembMarine said.

Construction will begin this year, with completion expected in the third quarter of 2025, SembMarine said. Once it’s completed, NApAnt will replace ocean support vessel NApOc Ary Rongel (H-44), which is nearing the end of its life cycle, the filing said.
