To The Moon

My most memorable event was during Feb-Mar, when Russia invaded Ukraine. I learnt a lot from it because back then, I had just started to learn how to invest (1 Jan). Stocks were at its peak, although back then, I didn't know that was the peak. 

I remember thinking, oh so this is investing, seems pretty easy... I remember bank stocks like$DBS GROUP HOLDINGS LTD(D05.SI)$ going up hitting $37. 

Back then, Russia was just saying that they were training around the borders and everyone else was skeptical that Russia would not invade. Well, stocks went downhill after that. I remember thinking it was impossible (just like everyone else) because we had just come off Covid-19 and more bad news seemed unlikely. After almost 2 years of stock growth, no one expected the bubble to burst. Tech stocks like $Amazon.com(AMZN)$  $Alphabet(GOOGL)$  and $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$  were at all time highs.

It was then I learnt as an investor what not to do. It was basically my ten year series, compressed into just a few months. I realised I had bought stocks at all time highs, didn't care about the entry price nor the fact that it was over valued. I didn't know about fluctuations, what comes up must come down. And yes, I bought Tesla at $1200 before it went down. I had jumped on the bandwagon, only to realise it was all heading south.

Even then, with the huge loss (it was huge to me at that time, although my threshold has increased because...well, no choice right?), we were all reluctant to let go of the paper losses. I for one, was hoping Russia would end the war soon. It would all be over quickly, or so I thought. If you fast forward to today, who would have expected the war to last so long.

Indeed, if there is one thing to learn from this event, it is never to take growth and peace for granted.
