The World Cup is over but there's a lot of interesting cultural information to be gained from the news.

For example, western media has been slamming the cloak given to Messi before he collected the World Cup. On the flip side, the alternative news from the gulf has highlighted that that is the highest honour, to be given a clock from the emir of Qatar.

Another interesting cultural nuance that I picked up, was the French culture of assimilating everyone into their own. Minorities were not allowed to have their own identity. Assimilated blacks are known to have a French identity but without any minority identity. This is unlike Singapore.

On the flip side, Argentinians who were represented by their football squads were largely whites, migrants from Europe. So it was almost a hogepot of immigrants during the finals. Minority migrant blacks in France representing France vs immigrant whites in Argentina.

So what does this have to do with investing?

Well two takeaways. Understanding news fromdifferent perspectives is essential before placing the order. 

The other aspect is that we cannot forget that behind every company lies their cultural soul. Culture eats strategy for breakfast. Culture is the heart and the soul of a company. Do you know the culture of the companies that you areinvesting?
