From The Jetsons to Joby: A Look at the Future of Flying Cars and Investing Opportunities

Remember The Jetsons cartoon? We all grew up watching that show and dreaming about the day we could fly to work, school, or even to the grocery store in our very own flying vehicle. Well, folks, that day is here or will be here soon, thanks to electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) technology! The Jefferies EVOTL Summit two days ago showcased some of the most promising companies in the eVTOL sector, including $Blade Air Mobility In.(BLDE)$ , $EHang Holdings Ltd(EH)$ , $Archer Aviation Inc.(ACHR)$ and $Joby Aviation, Inc.(JOBY)$ . Today. let’s discuss the potential of these companies and how to invest in the eVTOL industry.

The Tesla of eVTOL?

We all know that Tesla and BYD have dominated the EV market in recent years. But what about eVTOL? Who will be the next Tesla of the sky? It's hard to say for sure, but there are some strong contenders. Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation, both of which Cathie Wood's ETF has invested in, are two of the most promising companies in the eVTOL sector. Joby Aviation has already secured a partnership with Uber and plans to launch its air taxi service in Los Angeles in 2024. Archer Aviation, on the other hand, has partnered with United Airlines to develop electric air taxis for urban transportation. These two companies are definitely ones to watch in the coming years.

Investing in the Future of Transportation

Now, the question on everyone's mind: how can we invest in eVTOL? It's still a relatively new industry, and there are only a few companies that have gone public so far. Blade Air Mobility (BLDE) and EHang Holdings (EH) are two eVTOL companies that have already gone public. Blade Air Mobility operates helicopter and eVTOL services in cities across the United States, while EHang Holdings is a Chinese company that specializes in developing autonomous aerial vehicles. However, it's important to note that investing in a new industry like eVTOL comes with risks. It's still unclear how quickly the industry will grow and which companies will emerge as leaders.

Considerations for Investing in the EVTOL Sector

It's true that investing in EVTOL companies can be quite risky, as many of them are not yet profitable and have relatively small market caps. The value of these stocks has already dropped many times from their highs during the pandemic stock boom in 2021 (see below). And we are not sure when they can be profitable until the EVTOL industry really take off “literally” and be affordable for more people.

However, if you really see the potential in EVTOL technology and want to invest, it might be wise to consider investing in the Cathie Wood $ARK Space Exploration & Innovation ETF(ARKX)$ or $ARK Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETF(ARKQ)$. These ETF includes other big companies in the mix and investing in these established companies may help to mitigate some of the risks associated with investing in smaller, less established EVTOL companies. In fact, recently Cathie Wood added more JOBY shares, in total the ETFS are holding around $6million worth of JOBY shares. That being said, if you're willing to take on the risks associated with investing in the EVTOL sector, there's always the possibility that one of these companies could be the next Tesla, which saw its value increase more than 40 times from its IPO.

Blade’s market cap: 236.28million

Ehang’s market cap: 594.35 million

Archer’s market cap: 660.46 million

Joby’s market cap: 2.54 billion

Flying Cars or Sky Taxis?

One of the most exciting things about eVTOL technology is the potential for air taxis or flying cars. It's easy to imagine a world where we can hop into our own personal flying vehicle and zoom off to our destination. But the reality is that eVTOLs will most likely be used as sky taxis in urban areas. They will operate like Uber or Lyft, picking up and dropping off passengers at designated locations. While it's not as glamorous as flying cars, it's still a significant improvement in transportation. Imagine being able to avoid traffic and arrive at your destination in half the time!

The Sky's the Limit

The eVTOL industry is still in its infancy, but the potential is enormous. We are on the cusp of a transportation revolution that could change the way we live and work. While it's still too early to say which companies will emerge as leaders in the eVTOL sector, it's clear that there is a lot of excitement and innovation happening. If you're interested in investing in the future of transportation, keep an eye on Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation, as well as other promising eVTOL companies. Who knows, maybe one day we'll all be flying to work in our very own personal air taxi!
