Economic Calendar (20 Mar 2023)
Some of the notable economic data:
CPI data (representing inflation) will be hogging the headlines next to Silicon Vallet Bank (SVB) saga. This will be one of the key data before the Fed announces the coming interest rate hike. In fact, with the SVB collapse, some has called for the Fed to start pivoting soon.
China will be reporting the industrial YoY Production and this will provide a guide on the global outlook
Sales data - Core retail sales (MoM Feb), Retail Sales (MoM Feb) - this will be a good guide on consumption.
PPI and Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing index (Max) - the Producer Price Index will review the inflationary impact to producers which is likely passed on to consumers, which should show up as CPI. PPI could be a prequel the CPI.
Crude Oil Inventories can be seen as forward indicators of market demand and consumption. If the trend of excess inventories continues, this implies demand erosion that can lead to reduced production & weakening consumer spending.
