BYD is pushing strongly to be the king of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in China and the world. It is not competing solely in the sector of passenger vehicles but also making waves in the commercial vehicle sector.
BYD is also an OEM maker for brands like Toyota and is one of the biggest EV battery suppliers in China. They also offer battery storage and electric rail solutions in other offerings. BYD's battery base in Wenzhou has a planned investment of RMB 6.5 billion, with the first production line expected to start production in 2024 (as reported in Feb 2023). BYD has launched the deployment of the project, which will begin construction in the second quarter and is expected to be in commercial operation by the end of the year.
Denza - a partnership of BYD and Mercedez Benz
Apart from these, they are also having partnerships with Mercedez Benz under the branding of Denza. BYD’s Denza D9 EV Sells 3,000 Units in Just 30 Minutes in China as per reported by CarTimesChina in their article in May 2022.
BYD has offerings of vehicles in the sub-USD$16,000 range and thus, you can expect them to reach bigger demographics with lower price points.
There is a forecast that BYD’s production is targeting 4 million units. Some have argued that BYD’s production included plug-in hybrid vehicles. May I suggest that the next most important word after sustainability is transition? It is still a step closer to a greener future. With a less-than-adequate charging network, a hybrid may seem to be a good workaround.
