Apple Is Moving More of Its Supply Chain In-House. It’s a Blow for Suppliers.
Apple‘s apparent desire to move more of its components in-house could be a game-changer for its major suppliers, and not in a good way.
It’s not just chips that the tech giant wants to handle itself, screens could also be brought in-house. It would enable Apple $Apple(AAPL)$ to become less reliant on other companies and have more control over its own supply chain.
The tech giant plans to start using its own custom displays in its devices from 2024, starting with the highest-end Apple watches, Bloomberg reported late Tuesday. The move is likely to affect Samsung and LG, who both provide screens for Apple’s devices.
It comes after reports that Apple also wants to produce more of its own chip components by around 2025. The company is looking to replace a combined chip from Broadcom ( AVGO ) that handles Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functions in 2025, while also readying a cellular modem chip that could substitute for parts made by Qualcomm ( QCOM ) by the end of 2024 or early 2025, Bloomberg reported.

- bubblyx·2023-01-23I just didn't realize Apple was going to fall $60 short of $200. I didn't think Apple was in such poor shape. I didn't see that disaster coming or should I say I hoped for a little better but I was denied.LikeReport
