Definitely not surprised in the rising living cost. Excluding inflation, property prices has been allowed to rise substantially for the past few decades. This is what a certain segment of the population wants to see and those who suffers or unable to benefit belongs to the lowest rung of the society. One the side effects is that birth rates will never reach the rate needed for replacement.

We in Singapore has many choices....  you can have lunch for 3USD or 100USD.... you go from point A to B (1USD...Public transport) or (20USD...cost of your own car)...you can have your own home 200USD/sq ft (outskirts HDB) or 2000USD/sq ft (town condo)....etc,. Use different criteria - get different result.  In Singapore, you have a choice!

Not surprised as Singapore lacks natural resources. Plus, Singapore is a city well liked by many, drawing them to come here.
