Schwab Ultra-Short Income ETF Late To The Game

Summary Charles Schwab launches Ultra-Short Income ETF, competing in a crowded market with over $350 billion in assets. The ETF invests in short-term, investment-grade debt securities. SCUS invests in short-term, investment-grade debt securities, with potential for lower yields if the FOMC is expected to cut the federal funds rate. Betting is not if or when but by how much: 25 or 50 basis points. If indeed rates have peaked, long-duration funds or bonds are where

The Most Popular Active ETFs of the Year

Much has been written about the spectacular ascent of the JPMorgan Equity Premium Income ETF (JEPI). A mere three years after launch, JEPI is the largest actively managed U.S.-listed exchange-traded fund, with assets under management of $25.5 billion, up from $17.5 billion at the start of the year. The rapid growth of JEPI, which combines a covered call strategy with a low volatility value strategy, is indicative of the breakout year that active ETFs in general are having. Despite managing only 5.7% of all U.S.-listed ETF assets—$400 billion out of nearly $7 trillion—active ETFs have gathered nearly a third of this year’s inflows. What was once a small corner of the ETF market is increasingly being embraced by investors. And it’s not just JEPI; a number of active ETFs are se

VTEB: Simple Muni Bond Index ETF, But Better Choices Out Therestocklapse/E+ via Getty ImagesThe $Vanguard Tax-Exempt Bond ETF(VTEB)$ is a simple muni bond index ETF. VTEB's holdings have extremely low credit risk, moderate interest rate risk, and its dividends are tax-exempt. On the other hand, dividends are quite low, with the fund sporting a TTM dividend yield of only 2.1%, and an SEC yield / forward yield of 3.0%.In my opinion, although VTEB seems like a reasonable investment for more conservative investors wishing to minimize their tax burdens, the fund's overall value proposition is not very compelling. Several investments offer broadly superior, although not identical, value propositions to VTEB. As such, I would not be investing in the fund at
